Scangauge II

OK, I had a Janspeed Manifold fitted to the Cooper a few weeks back which I'm really pleased with.

A few days back the emission light (engine shape) came on and has stayed on since. Now I've read on here that it's not anything to worry about and just the second O2 sensor reading the post sports cat fumes which will be a little outside the standard parameters, but I would like to extinguish the light.

So onto the main reason for posting, The Scangauge II.

I always thought that this was for just reading and resetting fault codes and didn't realise that it's actually and additional on board computer readout too.

I'm still not sure if it's a good or bad thing to leave something plugged into the OBD socket all the time? I would have thought the OBD should only be used when reading codes or upgrading software when being serviced. Could it not cause a spike if it falls out or gets unplugged whilst being driven or am I being overcautious?

Also would it be compatible with the Bluefin I've uploaded?

So can anyway in the know give me their experience, good or bad, before I take the plunge and buy one please.

Thanks.........

I've been running a Scangauge II for a year now with no problems
It's not going fall out of the OBD port, just make sure you run the cable so you can't get your feet tangled in it.

I had this when i fitted my janspeed mani to my manifold

I got an 02 sensor/spacer from a MINI2 member in the US....he sent me two of them all you do is unplug the sensor and screw this on the bottom of it and replace the sensor.

If you PM me and i can find it in the morning you can have for a few quid postage.

Also, a scangauge can be a useful piece of kit for the price

Scotty

Edit: My sensor has never came on since and has past 2 MOT's

No cable hanging down in my car. The exposed (but unseen) portion is taped down and the excess is tucked up inside the Euro "Cubby" Knee Bolster and behind a trim piece on the center-stack.

No problems with my Scangauge, nice tool.

A good tuner should be able to remap your software and change the parameters a bit so the emission light stays off. I had the same with my (very badly welded) MTH manifold.

So, will an MCS with a decat pipe pass an MOT?

I would not have thought so ...

No, I mean when you have a good 200 or 400 cell racecat, not without cat.

I like where you've mounted that Berthil.

Is it held on with Velcro? How easy was the cable install?
