Go to your local auto parts store and ask the guy there he will advise you on the correct coolant that you need.

Also as on some other theads on hear as you dpnt know about this i would recommend typing in a few words in to google about vehicel maintenance and this may help you with checking these things and explain them alot more to you.

Hope that helps.

Scotty

As has been said It is important !............keep the coolant level between the max. and min. marks on the "bottle" or your engine may overheat and be damaged. If the level is dropping you need to get this checked out asap, as you could have something like the thermostat or radiator leaking.
Use a long-life ethylene glycol based antifreeze (50/50 mix antifreeze water).
BMW coolant will definitely be right spec. but may be more expensive than somewhere like Halfords.

^^^ what he said, if you're having to fill up regularly, then something may be amiss. if you've always used water over the recent period of subzero temps, thatmay be a factor, as it's possible your coolant % may have fallen and freezing point risen, fluid may have frozen and then thawed in your cooling system which may or may not acuse problems if this has happened. play safe and get a mechanic to check things out, and go easy on the car till it is checked over and keep the levels within normal limits till you do.
