Scotland OBX header with JCW cat back

Hello all,

I wanted to discuss the OBX header. I know this has been discussed before, but it was not in great detail, and im struggling to get my head around it.

I want to buy a header, however i dont want to spend the earth getting one, ive heard rave reviews about the OBX header being good value for money and a pretty good buy. Is this the case or is it a crap piece of kit?

The header can be bought on ebay for around £160, however what does this include, are there more parts that i need to buy in order to connect it up to my JCW cat back? If so what else do i need?

Does anyone have a OBX and stock 's' cat back or JCW cat back set up? If so how have you set it up?

Ive heard lots of things about chopping out the stock cat and welding it on and all that kind of stuff, i just want it to be an easy job and i want to fit it myself, so what is the best way? I think i want to go along the OBX header with de-cat pipe as i dont want to mess around cats and stuff really. Can this be done? I will just put stock manifold back in for MOT etc, is this a good idea or not? Will it be to loud? I think i will try to obtain a more permanent fixture later on when i have more time and money.

Sorry for all the questions, i hope someone has some answers.

Many thanks

Som

The OBX is pretty good from what Ive read about it but as you say you need to weld a cat in there. Anything without a cat is going to be pretty loud IMO. This may help you:

Yeh i have seen that video before, it sounds good. However it does not say whether or not it is de cat or a welded cat. I just read that the OBX is a catless system and there is not meant to be a specific cat for that system. I think i would just go for de cat, it will be loud, but i think it will sound good.

Do you know what de cat pipe fits onto the obx, if any?

Me and a friend fitted the obx to my cooper over the weekend.
we made a custom de-cat pipe from an old cooper s exhaust pipe and put that in place.
Sounds nice. Not too loud.

i run a OBX with a Megan racing DE-cat(also on ebay) with a blueflame cat back, and its very very loud, but i love it,
it pops like mad with the de-cat and when my mate was following me he said little blue flames pop out the back,
and this seems to be the case with most decats.
answering your question i think all Decats are the same size and are easier to fit than welding and cuting the standard cat down to size.
but you need a mate who works at an MOT station coz it wont pass on emmisions.

Westy, how hard was it to fit the header and the de cat pipe? Was it a straight bolt on job or was there any fiddling and customizing required? I was to go for OBX header and a decat pipe that i can just bolt on, i will keep my other manifold so that when it comes to MOT i will just switch back, or i will try to get a cat that i can permanently put in at another date. Do you know of any other De cat pipes that fit the OBX system westy?

got your PM mate thanks. I read it all and all seems good, think i will go down that route. Is this a cheap route to go down though? Also does anyone know which de cat pipe will fit straight onto this one?
