New to Mini ownership and forum etiquette, I hope I get both right.
I have purchsed a March 2004 registered JCW, which is fully cerificated and I had it confirmed as the 200bhp upgrade (beige injectors and no logo on the air filter box).
Is it worth having the JCW upgrade to 210bhp.
If so, does anyone know the performance gain of the extra 10bhp and does having the official JCW upgrade give it more potential for having a better re-sale value in future.
Yep. more people should think about what the next owners will like and pay to have to it done even if they get nothing out of it themselves, sounds like good business sense.
Ok, so no real reason to stick with a JCW upgrade to 210bhp. I would imagine it is possibly one of the most expensive options anyway.
Therefore can any of you advise the most economical way of tweaking up the bhp without spending a fortune and what it would roughly cost and what I could achieve.
Excuse my naievity, but is it therefore possible for me to get my 200bhp JCW kit up to 230bhp by keeping the already fitted standard Cooper S air filter box and de-flapping. If so, can you also give me a brief indication of what de-flapping involves ?
[quote=Caveman;3846614]De-flapping is done on the JCW air box and doesn't provide more horsepower, just more noise at lower rpm.
Upgrading from 200 bhp to 230 bhp will not be cheap.
OK, thanks Caveman,
Do you know what options there are for me. i.e what type of further upgrades will give me extra bhp. For example, i believe the official JCW upgrade to 210bhp will cost about £600 and apparently the extra 10bhp will only give about 0.5sec gain on 0-60, so that certainly does not seem worth the money.
Do you know what type of non JCW upgrade or what extra kit or tweaks would be the best value.
As the JCW's are notorious for low bhp readings it could be worth getting a run on the dyno before choosing future mods .
Mine is a pre facelift (163bhp), mods are: Hartge re-map/15% pulley/Alta V2 HAI/GRS intercooler/Milltek manifold/Hayward & Scott (one ball) exhaust & recently made 228bhp on Lohen's dyno
Will get bhp checked out prior to any spend. Enjoying the drive and performance as it is (for now anyway), great fun. Will definately get an upgrade but will have to check out what upgrade will be most cost effective (biggest bang for my buck, so to speak).
Agree with you on the colour. Electric blue, definately stands out !!
