Question Supertrapp Lean vs Rich

This question is for Garfield primarily, since he seems to be the guru on the Supertrapp, but anyone can answer if they know.

Have you checked to see how the Supertrapp affects the mixture ratio? Does the ECU compensate for the freer flowing exhaust, or does one need to up grade the ECU to be able to safely use the Supertrapp?

Thanks.

If you are running lean simply adjust the disks. I forget which it is - add more or use less disks to make it richer.

I haven't messed with mine recently, but as far as I could ever tell with different numbers of discs, it doesn't bother anything. The discs will change color according to how the mixture is. You want them to "bronze", and they obviously get dark if it's too rich, or stay silver if it's too lean. I think it depends on the car, but for the Cooper, you add discs to lean it out.
Like Obehave said, it's not a big enough change for the ECU to be affected.

Cars tend to run really rich from the factory as a safe guard. Adding just an exhaust isn't going to put your car into a lean situation. Only once you start doing lots of mods will you need to compensate.

Ok, so the opinion is there is nothing to worry about as far as a lean condition with just an exhaust change as the ECU can compensate. How about if one frees up the intake as well, can the ECU still compensate.

I know the current motorcycle full injection systems can handle either exhaust or intake changes w/o a remap of the injection system, but if you change both, a remap is in order.

On my 95 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, I had a lot of mods to the intake, exhaust, etc. and no need to worry about mixture. Does the Cooper ECU have such a wide operating band or is it more narrow like a motorcycle?

Thanks,
