Bit of a newb here still haha just got an 06 mini one and love it think its quite nippy but was looking in to bluefin as heard nothing but good reviews, however heard alot about the gearboxes being terrible on minis just wondering whether the extra power will massively affect the gearbox any ideas anyone would be much appreciated.
Bluefin For you mini one it will be ok, they are no good for the cooper s though.
Only gearboxes you really have to worry about are before July 04 as your is a 06 car you should be ok.
Ahh brilliant thanks for the response mate yea the box on mine does feel nice and smooth sometimes abit touchy and especially in reverse but it is a slightly old car so goes without saying, Is the gain really that noticeable with a bluefin on a mini one.
Yer I think most of the later 5 speed gearboxes are abit funny going in to reverse.
If you want to keep your gearbox in good Heath regular oil changes are well worth it there's a few threads here at mini2 about it
As far as I know the bluefin will give you a smother power range abit more mid range and top end. But I don't think you get what's claimed on there site.
I would fit a good filter to something like a itg replacement.
Ahh okay you know where i could find the threads on the gearboxes would be nice to know abit more info about them and yeah well im in the process of saving at the moment want to get everything in one go plus need to check with insurance haha but hoping to get bluefin maybe an induction kit or panel filter not sure yet and either playmini or miltek exhaust.
Personally I would go for a itg or K&N panel filter and just make shore the air box is getting plenty of cold fresh air.
If you go for an induction kit you will suffer with heat soak in the summer there are ways around this but personally with your set up I would go to a panel filter for now. It looks clean and standard
You can also get a cooper s throttle body which is bigger and looks standard
Arhhh dude your a legend thanks alot for this info, yeah i was thinking induction kit may be a bad idea as this engine seems to warm up very fast it gets very hot in the engine bay. Might have too look into a cooper s TB now haha, trying to get all the parts i can do without claiming on insurance until its in my name. Also do you know how to found out about mini meetings haha thanks again for all the help.
depending on where you are in the country there are some good few clubs that do runs and meets.
Total mini, surrey new mini, mini torque
Have a look round there should be something close to you where are you roughly in uk
The supercharged cooper s doesn't really gain much from a remap. If you want more power there are better ways to get it like smaller supercharger pulley, air intake, intercooler, exhaust etc. If you go for bigger injectors & cam then it would need a map but to get it perfect & for the safety of not destroying your engine it would really need setting up on a rolling road rather than a plug & play.
