Question MCS air intake hose diameter?

Can anyone tell me what's the diameter of the stock air intake hose on the S (the black rubber/plastic hose that connects to the stock air box)?

Also, where the hose connects to the air box, does anyone know if this part is made out of hard plastic or soft rubber?

Planning to remove the stock air box & replace it with a K&N cone/cylindical filter (poor man's way of getting more noise without buying one of those pre-fabricated BMP/Rogue intakes)

Before you guys grill me about the heat shield thing... I know, I know... I admit, I'm a cheapskate

Actually, I was planning on taking out the entire stock plastic air box (with the retangular paper air filter in it), leave the box somewhere in the basement, & attach the K&N cone to the rubber/plastic hose that used to connect to the airbox...

Answers to my questions? Anyone?

Thanks for your help, Obehave. I didn't mean to be rude, really. So, do you know if the end of the hose is "soft rubber" or "hard plastic"? The reason I ask is I don't know if I have to attach a short metal pipe to the end of the stock rubber hose & then attach the filter to the other end of the pipe, or if I can just mount the filter directly to the stock intake hose...

Check your yellow pages to see if there's an idustrial rubber hose retailer in your area. They usually carry 2" and larger rubber and silicone tubing, including elbows and sometimes ducting made more specifically for intake systems.

If that fails, try True Choice Motorsports. I know they sell silicone and rubber ducting in many different sizes, although you'll probably have to call them and tell them what you're looking for.

Samco is another good source of ducting.

You can always do a Google of "silicone ducting" and see what comes up

The OD of the tube from the throttle body to the airbox is 65mm. Most 2.5" filters will fit perfectly. Just go to your LAPS and purchase a short length of 2.5" exhaust tube and cut it down to about 1.5" in length (just enough to accept to hose clamps). This is how I do my lunchtime tests.

I've stepped it up to 3" ID filters but none of my LAPS have 3" exhaust tube! Hopefully I'll be able to rig something together for today's super test. Home Depot here i come?

Here's another (good) source for tubing/ducting, and they have all the diameters you might need. HTH, Jeff
