Talking JCW v Hartge reviews in Evo and Car

At last a couple of magazines have reviewed the JCW and Hartge head to head.

Evo and Car rate both cars highly, but in the end the JCW comes out on top in both reviews

Car mentions the Hartge kit feels a bit aftermarket compared to the JCW.

From Evo "An unscientific drag race from 40mph in 3rd right into the meat of 4th saw the Cooper S works pull about a car's length ahead over our Hartge S"

"Cruicially the Works car feels and sounds keener at any speed"

Both reviews are a good read, would have been interesting if they could have featured the GGR and Digitec cars

Cheers

Michael

Funny mine's booked in for Monday.

I just got off the phone with my insurance company, its now on the books properly and cost me an extra £120 for the year. I'm pretty happy with that!

Wonder if I'll have to run the car in again?

I'm afraid so. It's a 25,000 mile run in period for the new head, supercharger and exhaust. At no time are you allowed to exceed 2500rpm during this period.

I have the EVO (055) edition in front of me and the article sits on page 48.

Very good review for the works and the Plate looks very nice to SW02 RKS.

The claimed 0-62 speed is 6.7secs.

The writer claims that there is very little in terms of absolute performance.
This is taken from the article

" An unscientific drag race from 40mph in third right into meat of fourth saw the Cooper S works pull about a car's length lead over Hartage-equipped S"(EVO Ed. 055)

However they did mention that the Hartage S was loaded with camera equipment.

IMHO I think people who are considering these options on their S's need to try them both if they can arrange a test drive.
Each person has a different style of driving and the decision of where they want the extra power and handling from can be made with a good test drive.

Both seem very cool cars to have, lets see what the others have to say.

JCW sold one recently for 35k Sterling

EVO on sale in the shops now.

Anand

Just checked out the Car review and it does say the JCW is the best but gives props to the Hartge for being the fastest out of corners (and with the S Spokes too, versus the x-lites on the JCW). They say the Hartge is more 'aftermarkety' (is that a word?) than the approved BMW kit. Seems a bit uncalled for to say that.

As with the other reviews they also say that why bother with the upgrades at all when the standard car is so good. Still Evo have a different view on that score.

Erck!!

They also said I have to have the handbrake on as well, otherwise people will wonder why their standard Ss aren't going so fast.

I have just read the 'CAR' review of the S, Wks and Hartge. Great read, but at the end I still don't know which upgrade to choose! Very frustrating, hope the Evo review will swing it one way or the other. They still say that the standard 'S' makes so much sense that either conversion really needs to be carefully considered as to whether either have any real term value.

One odd quote from the article, 'Mini drivers are renowned for being selfish and greedy' - are they taking the pi55 or what? Any ideas? Is this a 'joke' that just doesn't work in print, or are they really saying that Mini drivers have 'issues'?

I would appreciate if one of you fortunate enough to hold a copy of the Evo (and Car) magazine(s) would be so kind and scan the article(s) for us less fortunate ones (who can not go to the local WHSmiths and buy a copy of the magazine.
As you can imagine here in Slovenia (where I live)newsagents are a bit short on the English speaking car magazines (maybe there is just not enough demand for the above mentioned auto magazines as the general public is not aware of all the good articles that can be read in them).
