Got JCW info from my dealer today

Hey all,

I got some paperwork from Motorwerks MINI in Minneapolis today. Looks like they are charging $4500 for the package and 2000 for install. They do have a pre order where you can save $200 if you reserve soon.

I am torn as weather to do it or not.

Bye,

Yellow

That's $222.22 an hour labour, according to Mike Cooper, it should be a 9 hour install. The $4,500 is the recomended kit price.

I don't know how good or bad that $222 figure is though.

My dealer quoted me an installed price of $5300 - which means $4500 for the kit and $800 labor. Your installation quote of $2000 sounds too expensive for 9 or 10 hours of labor - I'd find another dealer

My dealer in the Chicago (one of three dealers in the metro area) is also demanding $2000 for the installation.

With these ridiculous kit and installation prices, I think I'll be leaving off the JCW emblems so no one will know that I was stupid enough to pay that much for 37 hp.

RGK,
Why not skip the $6500, and install just the emblems

If I could find a way to get 37 hp out of those two JCW badges, I'd slap them on in a second.

$222/hr for labor is a #$&$^ joke. Dealers in my region charge around $90/hr, and some of the high-dollar west coast dealers charge $150-$175, but $222 is just silly. I'd be willing to bet dollars for donuts that $222 is not their standard labor rate, it's just a special gouge for this package...

I thought it sounded out of line.

Thumbs down

Don't do it

At least not yet - unless money is no factor.

Many companies have projects in the works which will get you close to that power for 1/2 the cost.

The warrany may be in tact with the Works kit, but at the cost you could afford to fix whatever the dealer says was caused by your upgrades.

If I wanted the warranty intact I'd settle for an intake & exhaust and the 15+ hp you'd add and call it a day. Maybe add whatever larger/better intercooler comes down the line.

If warranty isn't a concern, then obviously pullleeeey.

I've been quoted $5500-$5700 here in California, so it sounds like they are padding your labor costs with a little extra for themselves. If you want maximum power with warranty intact (and, for me, ability to pass California smog inspections) and a complete, fully tested package, this is the way to go.
