Who else is buying JCW kit here in USA? Thought I'd start a thread here for people here in USA who are on waiting list now to have the JCW kit installed. Yes, I know certain people (you know who you are) will chime in about why JCW is too expensive, blah blah blah...let's try not to let this thread get hijacked like so many others have been with this now boring debate. Personally I'm viewing JCW as a starting platform for future mods after the warranty expires. Since this will effectively be the hottest version of the Cooper S available from MINI/BMW, it should be great fun to have as a factory-warranteed and California smog legal set-up for the next 3 years. By the time the warranty expires I'm sure tuners will have worked out some pretty exciting packages for the Works S that will get it up to 230-250 BHP. Mike Cooper already mentioned his engineers have easily bumped their Works tuned car to 230 BPH. Anyone else have thoughts on why they are getting the JCW kit in USA? Not to exclude my UK and EU friends, but at this point the USA considerations are a bit different, since we don't have the Hartge, GGR, Digitec tuner options, and we have emissions controls that are a consideration (particularly here in CA). But I have been greatly enjoying the reviews in the UK from gents who've had it installed so far

Im getting mine because I do all my automotive shopping at JCW. I cant believe I can get velour seatcovers and novelty air freshener AND a pacesetter perfomance exhaust all from the same place. Man that JC Whitney is a blessing. -- Cheese

Mini S: Who are the authorized dealers for HArtge and GGR in the US? I was told by HArtge taht DAzz Motorsports was their US dealer, and DAzz told me they have only just began testinmg of the kit to see where it stands re: California emissions. HAven't heard anything about GGR in the US. Info, please, if you have it. Thanks

Re: Re: Who else is buying JCW kit here in USA? Andy: Not sure where you're going with this, but in the USA this kit is only available through Mini/BMW. And it is approved and warranteed by Mini/BMW. So given this, this is the hottest version of the Cooper S available from Mini/BMW.

Great...the JC Whitney joke. Again. I also expect to soon see MAX make his usual redundant anti-JCW comments, then we should have most of the usual suspects who hijack JCW threads accounted for. So back to topic, I'd like to hear from others in the USA who are planning to get the JCW package installed. Why are you planning to get it, what else you might add to your car to complement the kit (eg, an intake?), whatever other thoughts you have.

Velo: Interesting. I had heard that the Works S was targeted to be the base racing platform for the Cooper S. But that is just from rumors so have no idea if it is accurate.

Nice write-up in CCC about the Works S this month (Cars and Car Conversions, a top UK car mag). They LOVED it and dynoed it at 214 hp and 188 ft.lb at the flywheel.

At grave peril of actually dragging this thread back on-topic, I've got a kit on order. Should be at my dealer sometime within the next two weeks. No immediate plans for anything else either performance-related or appearance-related (I've already put JC sigs on my bonnet stripes). As for the warranty, I went over this one with MINIUSA directly (because I trust most dealers about as far as I can throw them, sorry dealers!). What I was told was that on a retro fit the full remaining duration of your warranty is still valid, just as if you had it installed on a new car. If the retro fit is done at such a time that less than two years of the original warranty remain, the JCW parts have a two year warranty while the rest goes out of warranty on schedule... -Ricardo

Re: Re: Re: Re: Who else is buying JCW kit here in USA? It would be hard for me to get mine installed at the factory since I already have my car. So, yes, I do know that.

That makes sense. I do already have the Madness intake, which I like quite a bit. It should be additive to the JCW kit, and I had to bolt on SOMETHING while I waited for the kit to be available!
