AmD 'One-Click' tuning box Hey people! I just wanted to confer with my fellow mini2'ers before i take the plunge and buy the AmD oneclick tuning chip/box. For those that don't know what it is, pls check out www.amd-technik.com and its under tuning. Anyway, talked to a saleswoman at AmD in Bicester and she said the car would gain 10bhp or so and improve the throttle respone. Cost is 390 quid plus VAT... It is meant to be undetectable by the dealership and it takes a matter of mins to swap between mappings. Sound too good to be true? Anyone had a negative experience with AmD?? Many thanks in advance, Henry

Thanks Max, I think that i will go with the AmD option when i get back to the UK. It will be an expensive venture for only a few horses as i will Dyno it before and after (140+vat) and i just hope it lives up to its claim! I will keep you posted. anyone else knowledgeable on this matter, please feel free to contribute at no extra charge Thanks, Henry

I'm confused by this as I don't see any reason why they can't detect it unless the people re-programming ECUs are trying hard to hide their work. Of course they'd have to be looking for it first and unless you submit your car with an ignition type problem then there's no reason to look. When the dealer hooks up their diagnostic computer I'd expect them to be able to interrogate the system to ascertain thing like what version of code is installed (remember MINI produce software upgrades on a regular basis). Any MINI techs on here like to comment?

Basically the OneClick box has two memory areas. When you buy one, you let AmD or it's distributors know what mods you have, e.g. Sports Cat & Exhaust, Induction kit, Gas flowed head, Smaller pulley etc. AmD will program one of the areas (the "modified map" area with the correct code relating to your car based on what you've told them. When you receive the box, the first time you use it, it downloads the current contents of your car's ECU and stores it in the other area called the "Standard map" area. After this you can swap between "Performance" and "Standard" maps as many times as you need. You don't leave the box plugged in like on a HOPA module, it just takes two minutes to upload whichever program you want. It can't be used on more than one vehicle, so if you are hoping to use it to tune 20 cars at a meet, you're going to be disappointed! Because you can put back exactly the same program as which the car had originally - it is undetectable. Even when loaded with the "Modified map", dealers can't readily detect any changes using standard diagnostic equipment. So, before taking the car for a service, simply set it up with the "standard map"! Mail me at sales@AmDTechnikUSA.com if you want any more details. In the meantime, I'll try and attach a .pdf copy of the instructions for you to look at - just need to figure out how to attach a file on this post when it's bigger than 460k! Best wishes, Ram

Cheers Ram! Please email me the users guide to supercoopers@postmaster.co.uk. I will definitley be buying the box when i get back to the UK. Ram, are you in the US at the moment or are you based at Bicester, Oxfordshire? Is there a way of buying the tuning box out here in Florida? Many thanks in advance, Henry

Has this been tried on systems with the Yo Yo problem? Any improvement or elimination of the yo yo? How has this system impacted mileage under normal conditions? Need a test vehicle?? I can think of a real nice guy with the yo yo that'd be glad to "evaluate and report" the mod. Just to be clear that would be me

think superchips were the first to try this idea. they have a device called blufin which is made for most ford models which plugs straight into the diagnostic port. i've heard nothing but good words said about it too! ps once it has been used on one car it cannot be programmed into another car for obvious reasons. sure this will be the same with amd's little box of tricks.

I can vouch for the system, I had a Hartge conversion and then went on to add a considerable amount of additional hardware which I was not getting the best out of. AmD improved the map and in doing so made the car quicker again, smoother and much more throttle responsive. I know i'm not the only Hartge that has been modified in this way and both of us have had unbelievable results. And, as an upside I still have a copy of the original map I can reload when I remove the hardware i've added. Wot Midlife crisis???
