Intercooler Spray

Hey People,

One of my mates is currently in the process of rerouting his Xenon headlight washer system so that it functions as an intercooler water spray system.

Has anyone else ever done this mod? He reckons it will aide his performance, although I am slightly sceptical. I will have to go and check it out when he has finished and report back!!

It might work, but whatever water does not evaporate on the intercooler, will drip onto the engine, and possibly the ignition system. That would not be a good thing. Also, the tank does not hold that much water.

Just my thoughts.

I have seen Nitrous sprayed onto intercoolers. That works pretty good.

The Idea is a good one but you should think of getting a ECU to controll when the Spray is used.. Autospeed.com.au sell a smart unit that learns your driving pattern and only uses it when needed as you add a temp sensor to the intercooler and intercept the external temp sensor. I had this installed on my former WRX and it gave me a noticable increase of power in the warmer months. Wont be of much good or use unless you are racing or the Ambient air temp is over 24. May help in reducing the amount the computer retards the Fuel and ignition in summer though.

I am about to fit this same kit to my MCS and will post results soon with some pics of it fitted. Another good option that is the best by far for a MCS is to get a water to air intercooler setup. they are the most efficient in a confined space like the mini. http://new.minimania.com have a unit for sale and I believe there are a few radiator and intercooler manufactures in syd that could make this up for about $1500.00 not sure but thats a ballpark figure i was given.

Try a search I remember a highly detailed discussion of intercooler spraying a while back that you might find useful info. (or just scroll down and look at the list of similar thread I thinksits one of those)

I have Xenon lights with the washers. One thing that strikes me about this plan is that the res isn't very big, and you won't get many sprays before you're out of water. Other than that, sounds like a fine plan

What about having to wash your windscreen a few times to get the xenons to wash?

Probably not a bad idea. Unfortunately, in Germini, the washers must stay intact with xenon's or the car becomes illegal for road use.

Passengers ride at own risk !
