I was just wondering, has anyone heard anything about, or think that, Dinan (the BMW tuner) would put their magic into the Mini. I know they only work on bimmers, but since Mini is owned by BMW, it got me thinking they might try something. Plus I'm sure they could make the Mini even more amazing than it already is.
So just checking to see if anyone has any thoughts on this.
They are only a minutes away from me, but I'm not holding my breath. I contacted them early in the year, and they said this summer, then late summer/fall, now maybe this year. I'm sure it will be good, but being very late to market sort of tells me that we are not #1 in their eyes, and I suppose that makes sense though...
I'm glad that I didn't wait. With a new TB coming in the next day or so, I should be around 215 to 220hp and really enjoying the evolution of my MCS
For what it's worth.... Ron of Habberstad Mini/BMW service told me last week that he'd gotten first glimpse of specs on Dinan Mini tuning package that he was told would be coming out around April. He also said it would be less than half or JCW installed.
As my only tuning to date has been CAI I may wait and see what they come out with.
I too have been waiting for the Dinan stuff. If you go to their web site, DInanbmw.com I think, you will find much info. But the basic stuff is this, 200 hp kit for the S coming "around March", with more on the way incuding hints at a larger supercharger, MMM, more hp, and suspension upgrades, brakes ect. Also states the cost should be a little more than half of JCW. All this info is in the "newsletter" section of the web site. Go forth and save $$$.
The Stage 1 program produces an additional 15 horsepower, increasing the peak output to 178 horsepower. This system includes re-calibrated engine management software, a HighFlow Cold Air Intake System with cowl induction, High Flow Throttle Body and Free Flow Exhaust. The additional power is extracted without any change in boost pressure, but rather as a result of enhanced breathing through intake and exhaust modifications. Pricing for the package will be very reasonable, likely under $2000, with approximately 6 hours of installation time.
Dinan Stage 2
The Stage 2 engine produces an additional 35 horsepower, bumping peak output to 198. The system includes all of the Stage 1 components, along with a healthy increase in boost pressure to 14psi. The extra boost pressure is accomplished with a replacement supercharger pulley and fully matched engine management software ensures that power and driveability are optimized.
The Stage 2 engine will offer virtually the same output as the Cooper Works package, but does not necessitate removing and reinstalling the cylinder head or exchanging the supercharger unit. The Stage 2 engine components are expected to retail for under $3000 and take about 10 hours to install. Once again, Dinan matches the new car warranty coverage for stunning performance along with the peace of mind provided by up to 4 years or 50,000 miles of warranty coverage.
