GTech Pro Meter in Cooper S

Hi,

I'm having problems getting the GTech Meter Pro running off the cigarette lighter plug in
the Cooper S. Has anyone used a GTech meter in their Mini ? What could be the problem ?
It seems to fit into the plug and contact well. The meter is working aok in other cars.

Thank you.
Shaz.

I had this problem when i put a shift light on the car... Found that the socket it self was not working properly with a standardised plug on the Shift light... I also tried a mates Standard G-Tech and it had the same problem... I had the cigarette ligher replaced.. all ok now.

Worth having it looked at.. it seems to me though when you look at the Ciggarette lighter socket that its different to the normal.. but it could just be me seeing things

ThePilo on MCO found that the cig outlet has conditioned power, ie no alternator interference. He sells a little adapter for hooking up a Gtech.

I have no connection with Pilo and I have not purchased the adapter so I have no other info.

strange motoring .. im using the G-tech in mine with no problems off the standard socket. but as canberra suggested. if its a case of the G-tech might not be comming on at all then its due to the half depth sizeof the standard lighter plug in the mini and a new one may be needed

I just received mine today and was a little worried after reading this post. Lucky for me I hooked it up and it appears to be working properly. Is yours not working at all or just not giving accurate information?

my present G-tech works fine, although my first unit had to be sent back and exchanged. try it out in another vehicle to be sure.

For those of you that have your G-Tech working properly, what type of results are you getting for HP, 0-60, 1/4 mile, etc...........

I haven't had mine long enough to get anything consisent, so was just wondering what
you're getting. Maybe I should start a poll

MINI and BMW cigar lighter sockets often do not work well with non original (BMW) plugs, best thing to do is buy an aftermarket socket and try that. If you buy an approved BMW spare or accessory with Cig Lighter plug it works ok, but others from general auto shops often don't.

There are some cars that seems to be able to run it, and other that do not. I am not sure why it works on some but does not for others. I do have a harness that will allow it to work in those that do not work. It also helps in making a Stealth install, as well as turning on and off with the car so that you don't need to unplug it every time you get out of the car as if it was hard wired in to the car.

E-mail me @ mini@thepilo.com if you have more questions

Thanks
Dan

Hi All,

Thanks to all for your input. I suspect at this point the cigarette lighter socket is faulty, will be taking the G-Tech Meter & 'Sonic' Cooper to Mini this week for a health check.

Cheers, Shaz

JBOO,

We seem to have exactly the same mods on our MCS (Digi-Tec + Mini Mania intake...around 220hp). What kind of results/numbers are you getting from your G-Tech Pro? (HP...torque...0 to 60/100...)
I just ordered a G-Tech Pro Comp, and I can't wait to see how's my car doing on the paper.
Thanks.

Sergio-

Welcome back. Good to see you and your S made it to the US and I hope safely. I haven't played around with my GTech much since purchasing, however, I've been able to get consistent 0-100 k.m times of 6.6-6.8 seconds when I tried. If the weather permits, I'll try to start getting some more times down to compare with you.

Oh, BTW, now that you're in Colorado, you should go check out the Milltek exhaust that Randy of Webbmotorsport carries. I've been thinking of buying it to release some more of that DT power.

JBOO,

It'll be great to compare numbers once I start playing with the new toy!

But one thing I can tell you though...your S should be by now waaaaaay faster than mine ...why? altitude! My poor MINI has an everyday battle with elevation...6,500 feet (2,000 mts) is no joke. It feels like when it was stock, just adequate, but not fast, even with the extreme cold temperatures we get over here. The air is so thin...you can hardly breath.

I haven't put the intake yet, because I will like to see some numbers before and after, but I'm not expecting miracles. About the Milltek exhaust, it seems like a great option. That will be my next step, but I haven't decide yet. I was tempted with the Magnaflow, but I hear everywhere that the thing is sooooo loud...But anyways, It's a good thing there's a MINI tuner here in Colorado. (Webb)

Question: Do you know the drag Cd and the frontal area for the MCS? I know that the G-Tech needs that info in order to provide some measurements. I believe that the S has a 0.37 drag coeficient (very poor) but I'm not sure.

Nice talking to you again!

(We'll keep in touch....)

Sergio

BTW...In my way back from St. Louis, MO, (right after picking up my car), my windshield got busted by a rock thrown by a eighteen wheeler while driving through Kansas...

...another MINI with a cracked windshield...and counting.
Instead of fixing it, I replaced it...I couldn't live with a 5 inch crack right in front of me...
