Mini Tuning

Are there any good, inexpensive (ie not Cooper Works !) mild tweeks out there on the market for the Cooper ?

Strictly no Max Power stuff, just something that will crank the power up to about the 130bhp mark with no drop off in economy, and which will not invalidate the warranty. And which the insurance company won't know about.

I know I'm not asking for much............

You need to look into an aftermarket air filter/induction kit (I went for the K&N panel filter), and then an aftermarket exhaust (to allow the extra input, out). These two plus a software update should provide your 130BHP.

NB: This is pretty much the JCW upgrade minus the gas-flowed head.

Remember you cant get the best of both worlds. If you want more power that takes mre fuel so your economy will decrease.

But hay i have a Pipercros Induction Kit. Janspeed Cat back exhaust system and the JCW ECU upgrade. You can buy the One Click. Click of a button and you re-map your ECU that would be good.

With all the alterations on mine. i dont use that much more fuel but i can notice it drop if i drive the car hard.

Then again i can feel a difference if the power. I must be running at 130bhp now.

Hope this helps.

Magik

United-States question...

Would these mods also work for a MINI with an automatic transmission?

I'll disagree with mini_magik a little.
I have intake, exhaust, wires, plugs and some other non engine mods on my car. I get exactly the same mileage I did before these mods.
I log every tank of gas so I'm quite sure of this.

That said, you can certainly MAKE the mileage worse and probably will, with the added HP

risingabov: Yes they will work.

Do you have the ECU re-mapped Obehave. This is where i have noticed the difference in fuel economy. When i had me exhaust and induction kit on i could harldy notice a difference ifn fuel but as soon as i re-mapped the ECU to the john cooper works tune. It then showed.

All the tune does is change the timing of the injectiong and injects more fuel into the cylinder on each stroke. So you are using more fuel. as you have it chipped as such you want to put your foot down more so without realising you do use more fuel.

( In my own words )

But have you tested the output?

A Mini very much like the Bee has a Superchip and PiperX induxtion kit, Sound great, but it is very difficult to identify any real power increase.

It will keep up with an induction kitted, full exhaust system cooper on the track, but there is not much in it.

I guess you pays your money and takes your choice, me I'm saving for an S

No I haven't and that may very well be the difference. I don't think that should be true though. I've had friends chip Mustangs and Camaros. Once they stop romping the crap out of the car their mileage really didn't change . Admittedly most of them didn't really track mileage though but the few that did really had little or no change. The one guy that said mileage improved had some some ignotion tuning as well so I don't really think that counts.
HP is like money. The more you have the more you spend

I'm waiting a bit til I see more info on the available chips.

You do like your ECU upgrade though right? That's what really matters.

United-States Upgrades

I recently added a Amd Oneclick an my MINI w/CVT and have noticed a wonderful improvement off the line and mid-range throttle response. I also have a K&N replacement for the air filter. I have NOT changed my exhaust. The more free flowing (less back pressure and more noise) usually will reduce your low end performance and improve it (your performance) in the highend. I will be auto-xing and rallying my MINI this spring. With out the One-click I had to use the sport mode to easily maintain my speed on the Ozark mountain roads. Since installing the One-click similar roads are comfortable is drive and a real blast in sport mode.
