Has anyone removed their valve cover

Oil catch can connections ?? First off, credit for this diagram goes to MiniPilo. http://www.thepilo.com/images/oilcc.jpg
The gray tube with plug on the diagram. Is that a crankcase vent, venting crankcase pressure into the valve cover? Or is it a drain, draining condensed oil from the valve cover back into the crankcase? This was included in a thread about ALTA oil catch can connections. Question, why would you want to plug it reguardless of it being a vent/drain anyway. Yes I asked but didn't get a reply.

Subject change bump, maybe someone has looked at the underside of their valve cover to see what this vent does.

the valve cover has two pressure reliefs. The grey tube (passenger side) has a pcv valve at the valve cover and is connected to the manifold between the throttle body and the blower intake (this will see vacuum at idle or minimal throttle openings). The other tube makes a connection between the throttle body and the air filter and is always at ambient pressure. You would need to plug the manifold side if disconnecting from the valve cover, as Pilo indicates and vent the catch can back to the ambient tap.

inside the valve cover, both tubes are protected from splash by baffles and are intended to collect vapor only.

jIm, Thank you, I was hoping you would clear this up. I can now finnish up my catch can and hose routing.

TonyB, pictures. I should have taken measurements first because it doesn’t fit where the ALTA does but will on passenger side firewall. If I decide that I don’t like the hose routing from there then this one will go on my other car and I’ll make another MINI specific. I have a stainless steel canister and parts already to make-up another for MCS.
Parts
The aluminum can 16oz, had a fuel additive in it.
3/8x1/4” hose barbs, 2
sight tube fittings, I made-up by cutting double ended barb in half and soldering into 90 degree brass 3/8” fittings.
Radiator drain cock, 3/8”
Mopar V8 breather cap, this has a built in filter and aluminum mesh to condense oil from vapor.
Grommet, Mopar part to fit in valve cover and accept breather cap
3/4" copper, about 3” for baffle
Silicone, Black Hi temp. sealant
Epoxy, PC 7
paint, hammertone dark silver
hose, I use Gates 3/8” id fuel/emission hose, it won’t collapse or rot.
I had alot of this stuff already in my garage, think that’s about it………. Norm03S
