K&N Typhoon n Cooper

I've tried to do a search but I think it is a bit all over the place.
I'd just like to know from those who is driving a Cooper with K&N Typhoon installed...I'm about to order one Typhoon kit for my Cooper...

What do you think?
Is the kit worthed? remembering it's not cheap at all (around AU$320)..
What sort of performance increase should I be expecting?

I apologize for asking too any questions...but playing around with Mini is new to me
any suggestion will be uch appreciated.

Cheers

Got to agree with GMINI03, I have had mine fitted for about a month now and the sound is fantastic. I have also noticed that it is a little bit more responsive but this could be a mixture of the K&N and using Shell Optimax fuel. Would recommend one and everytime you hear it you'll be smiling. Don't take too long to install either, worst part was trying to remove the old air box. The instructions made it sound so easy!

I swopped from a 57i induction kit to a Typhoon...Even that made a noticble difference. So to go from standard filter box to typhoon....Youll definately notice a change

One thing to note. The breather hose that came with my typhoon was a little on the short side. Therefore not allowing me to postion the filter exactly where i wanted it. Problem soon solved by getting a long length of hose....Might of just of been mine but something to watch out for...

As for tricks....No tricks requirred!! Dead easy, cant possible go wrong

Leon, just read your post on here, did you end up getting the Typhoon for your MC.
Let me know what it's like if you can. I just fitted a Borla cat-back exhaust to my MC and it sounds sweeeeet!!!! Am now looking at a good air filter to complement the exhaust..
Cheers...

Hi there Jaff..
I did install my Typhoon kit..and I thought I'll post it as soon as I have the picture of it..
but since you ask..yes I've got them now..
performance-wise..I think it betters the factory intake quite a bit and the noise is just marvelous..I'd reccomend you to get one..especially when u have the exhaust system as well
It didnt take me long to install it and everything bolts on perfectly..
so..hope that helps

BTW..where did u get the muffler from?
is it really loud? Coz I'm looking for an exhaust system thats not loud but looks good

Thanks Leon,

I got my Borla Exhaust from www.turnermotorsport.com in the USA.
It sounds awsome. Has a really deep rally car type drone to it when idling and has a nice burble and pop sometimes too. If you just drive around normally it's not too loud, when u open up the throttle the sound just comes to life . I love it!!!!!! Looks great too!!!
It cost me $US 459 plus shipping. $70 dollars here to fit
Where did you get the typhoon from and how much did you pay??

US$459? how much is the shipping?
Coz I'm thinkin of getting remus exhaust..but from what I've heard..remus only looks good...no power increase..correct me if I'm wrong tho.
is there any noticable difference..apart from the noise?

I bought my Typhoon from Autobarn in Melbourne..I got that for AU$319..thats the cheapest I could get..
it sounds a bit expensive..but I'm satisfied with it..so..
let me know when u decide to buy one...hows the combination of the intake and the muffler

Leon, the shipping was quite exspensive US$330 with Fedex for 5-7 days delivery.
I asked for a cheaper rate but TurnermotorSport said from their experience in shipping overseas that this was the safest option. They didn't want it getting lost or damaged hence the high price, also the box was quite big and it took only 6 days to get to me,

I havn't heard of anyone putting the Remus on a MC. Personally I wouldn't buy a remus
purely because none of the Mini web sites sell or recommend them.
You can't go wrong with the Borla, seriously.... I get a big grin everytime I start it up( it sounds that nice) It's definatly got more pull through the rev range. I was not expecting much, so was quite surprised when i opened it up at the lights as too what a difference it made. Can't wait to see what a difference the intake will make combined with the exhaust
Thanks for the info on the Typhoon, I'll try contacting them and see if they can ship to Perth...
Stay cool.....

j.....

I have a REMUS on my MC, and I am very happy. I was going to import the PlayMINI system from the UK, but the REMUS worked out cheaper (I think I paid about $700). The installation was easy, a simply cut and clamp behind the cat. I simply love the exhaust note, not too loud. The REMUS has a nice exhuast tip too.

In terms of performance, I found that the MINI has better (!) power / acceleration across the range. It also seems to rev better - I guess that is better breathing. The reality is that you really cannot expect much, maybe a handful of kWs without doing extractors as well.

At the moment, I have a drop-in K&N, but I am looking for something like a K&N Typhoon. Would like to hear how it performs in hot weather.

If you would like to see or hear the REMUS, I am in Melbourne, or if you simply want to exchange MINI stories please call me on 0408 004 006.

If you are after an independent review try US site http://motoringfile.com/exhaust/ (this was originally bridger.us)

Good luck with your decision

Chris

Chris

What sort of differences did you notice with the drop in K&N, such as performance and noise wise. Good to hear someone got the Remus exhaust, you got any pics of the install?
I just got quoted $369 for the K&N Typhoon for my MC from Autobarn. I'm in the process of trying to get it down to the price Leon got or cheaper

Hi Jaff

As someone else said, the drop-in was a little better for induction noise, but not much else. I am really concerned about hot weather temp with Typhoon or 57i.

Try Rocket Industries directly for pricing, they are the the K&N distributors.

Please check my gallery for photo of tip.

Thanks
Chris
