Angry HKS Super Dragger Cooper Exhaust is not 100% Stainless Steel!!!

I have an HKS zorst and love it, however about two weeks ago i took of my HKS exhaust after 2 years with it on - just to see the difference between the standard and the HKS. The back box was lovely - a few tar spots and the like, but after 30 minutes, it polished up as good as new - so clear that you could have shaved in the reflection - the pipework is a different matter!! - there was corrosion all over it (not bad, but corrosion none the less. A bit of research has shown the hks marketting bumf to say the following....

Quote:
Super Dragger Exhaust System - This system is also manufactured form mandrel bent, aluminised steel piping, but it uses a simpler silencer. The silencers are also manufactured from Stainless Steel, but they are of computerised, welded construction. Due to the size of silencer used, these systems may be slightly louder than the Super Dragger systems.

I'm not best pleased as i thought that the system was full stainless and at £400 it damn well should be!!!

Please be warned - play mini is 100% stainless and would be better value for money

it says that is aluminised steel.. no where in that context does it say stainless...
however it does say that the silencer is also made using stainles steel..
some kind of mix up
but an HKS muffler with corrosion on it.. a different story altogether...
r u sure that all of this comes from HKS?

yeah - I'm sure it is an HKS exhaust.... and what i am seeing is precicely what they are saying - the actual back box is lovely polished stainless, however all of the other pipe work is (was) a matt grey finish, and it is here that the corrosion is. I'm not saying the corrosion is really bad, as in about to berotten through, however it is pock marked, black / brown iron oxide covered and generally looking a pretty shabby.

I didn't have my camera at the weekend, so i'm sorry there are no pictures, however i think there is a little picture in my gallery somewhere that shows it before i put it on...

I called HKS europe this morning - and i am awaiting for a further response - i got the initial "it is covered by a 1year warranty" line, however i did day that i was dissappointed that the exhaust wasn't 100% stainless given the price.

We will wait and see....

keep going with this since.. you should get some response and i'm quite suprised to read of an HKS exhaust catching rust.
hope it turns out ok..
my experience with BMW here is bad... service sucks and they keep ordering parts for me which never arrive, not to forget my scratched Hamann gear knob which happened due to some idiot not taking his ring off.... i have no time to go and kick there butts so I have to spend $100 or more on a new one..

i'm here to tell u that we all have to deal with and it doesn't feel good

While I understand your reaction, their sales text can be read differently. It also says that in addition to (their word also) the aluminised steel piping there is also a SS muffler. Misleading maybe, but it seems to me that it can be read either way. The cost difference to do both in SS at the manufacturing level is very small.
