Throttle body mod

Peeps,

A quick search did little to assist in finding out if anyone has had their throttle body bored out on their cooper.

Basically someone who looks just like me and drives a cooper just like mine has an order in for an S, but due to circumstances at work may decide to cancel the S and keep the cooper.

If the cooper is retained it needs a Play Mini exhaust (natch) to go with its superchip and PiperX induction kit.

The only other thing it would get would be a £350 throttle body skim. Has anyone done this and if so what do you reckon to it?

S

Since a larger TB does little to improve performance on a stock S, I'd expect it to do less on a Cooper.
The external diameter of the TB throat is the same so your induction kit will fit.

Hear what you are saying

But the mod is supposed to yeild 7 bhp on a Cooper - I guess an S should see the same benefit. Now in relative terms 7 bhp for a 115bhp car is a grater difference than the same hike in a 163bhp one.

I take it you have aTB upgrade? If so does it improve throttle response and help cure the stutter?

Sorry, don't have the TB
Don't know about that 7HP figure. The best I've seen posted is 5HP on a modded S. No way you'll see more than that on a Cooper.
If it out breathes the engine you may actually lose bottom end torque and HP.

Just a possiblility.
Believe me I'm not trying to be the voice of doom. It 's just that I don't want to see you get disappointed.
Here's the best thread on the subkect

I cant remember which one, but I believe that one of the tuners gives a before and after dyno in the price. They take off your TB, bore it out and replace the thing, super stealth mod. Before and after dyno's should settle the discussion

Someones got to be first, go on, you know you want to.....

Was a 1, now 1 of 150 in a 40

Yeah it is West Tuning, i think it's really good as they have obviously got confidence in their products/services. Keep us posted if you get it done as ive got a cooper which is waiting for some mods and would be really interested to know the affect of the throttle body. How badly does it affect petrol consumption though? i got the impression it went up a fair bit

I emailed West about this about a month ago with a view to getting it done, but as they never replied to my email, they're not getting my business! Actually, I reckoned that I might as well get the ECU remap done first as it's cheaper.

MINI Going.....Toyota Supra RZ-S Twin Turbo Coming....Standing Quarter, anyone....?

I've got the ECU remap (allegedly) and it really is hard to tell the difference in terms of outright speed/power gains, but it does smooth out the stutters and give you more useable power at lower down the rev range.

Seems I'm gonna have to be the guinea pig and go up to Thruxton to get it done then?

I think West are to busy moding cars to check email. If you check their web site it's been under construction for months . But everything I've read about them sounds great there up with BBR in the power stakes 218bhp out of MCS pulley & chip + cars up to 250+bhp

Similarly, I couldn't tell the difference after the OneClick. But, I'm off to AmD tomorrow for them to do further work.

I'll post what I find.

If it counts any, I've considered going getting the throttle body done...
