Question Bonnet Sound proofing??

I am just wondering, if i unscrew and remove the soundproofing sheet from under the bonnet will there be any noticable difference in the inuction noise. I have a K&N 57i would this be louder?

Not much that you'll notice from inside the car.
Onlookers may be impressed.

Is there any bad effects i should be aware of by taking this out or is it a simple matter of unscrewing it?

OK......I have taken the sound proofing under the bonnet out and taken my car for a spin. You can hear a small difference from inside, more of a roar. When i put the windows down however the difference was much bigger, the induction roar is noticeably louder, not intrusive though. If you have an induction kit you should try it, its just a matter of a few plastic screws, can be put back in a couple of minutes.

Yey, so somebody else has done it. Can it make the bonnet get really hot though?

My concern (though it may not be justified) would be that the extra heat going to the surface of the bonnet would effect the paint and/or bonnet stripes adversely.

Lol...I am happy with the 'de-soundproofing' it is definitely louder. Since i have had my induction kit i think its got quieter but now without the soundproofing it is back to its old self My bonnet stripes are only magetic anyway so the heat shouldnt effect them anyway. In england heat is not the biggest of our worries

Go for it! Only takes a few minutes. Do you have an induction kit?

Yes, I do. I have the BMP Pro MINI intake and an RSpeed exhaust. My sound proofing is a bit chewed up from the intake anyway.

Yer do! I couldnt find anyone else who had really done it so I just went for it and i am really happy with the results. Just make sure you dont drop the screws into the engine they could be hard to get out! If tyou have any trouble getting a screw out, use a flat screwdriver and push it from behind whilst unscrewing.

That batting is supposed to put out any fires that start in the engine bay, btw. Soundproofing isn't its primary purpose. It's designed to melt (?) and smother the fire.

I have never known it to actually put the fires out though.......They claim it does but everyone knows it doesn't. If the engine sets on fire i'll have to take my chances......worth it for the sound!
