Question Interference Engine?

Greeting miniacs -

Does the Mini 1.6L engine have valve-piston "interference"? That is, if the timing chain breaks or jumps off, would the top of the pistons hit the valves as they open? I have seen a few engines destroyed by this design. OTOH, they did not have timing chains, but belts.

Thanks -

Not many engines are free-wheeling these days.......I guess that the MINI isn't either......but not 100% sure!
