Boost Gauge Install: OEM Vacuum Line

Hi All,

I am considering installing an electric Boost gauge which requires a T-Piece to be spliced into the OEM vacuum tube. Not having removed the intercooler myself, I was wondering:

1. Is it difficult to remove/replace the intercooler?
2. How would I identify the vacuum tube which needs to be spliced?
3. Would I need to install clamps on all ends of the T-piece?

Appreciate your insight and advice.

Regards,
Eddie

Hi,

I wanna do the same thing. Did you already install it?
Please let me know how you did it.

Hi CaMeroN,

Yes, I did manage to install it. Initially I thought I would have to tap either the primary or secondary IC manifolds as some have done, but fortunately I came across a recommendation from jlm which required only a T piece installation from an OEM line.

Follow this link and look for jlm's detailed post:

Good luck with it
This link shows my final installation:

Thanks Amigo.

What is the best way to get from the egine compartment to the inside of the car? Are there any existing holes I can use?

And what about lightning? Which wires are you using for your guages?

Your setup looks great by the way. I Hope I'll get mine in soon too.

On our right hand drive cars, there is a rubber gromit on the upper left firewall (facing the car). I punctured this to pass through two sender wires (oil temp and pressure) and one nylon tube (for my mechanical boost gauge). I was able to pass the wires and tube through existing holes on the plastic shield in front of the firewall.

As for ignition power for the electrical gauges, I used the power from the cigarette lighter and for the lighting power, I used the illumination power to the stereo head unit. I passed a ground wire from cabin to the engine bay through to the standard ground point near the engine. This wire was passed through another existing rubber gromit on the firewall, as I already had too many going through the other hole.

To have a better idea - reference your gauge wiring instructions or refer to the OEM wiring diagram Mini issued for their own gauges. This should be available on the net or from your dealer.
