Installing the reduction pulley

Well, I’ve tried to search out this question in both this forum and in North American, but have yet to find what I’m looking for.

Has anyone posted instructions of how to install a reduction pulley on the blower? If not, can someone do so? I’d like to know just what’s involved, detailed somewhat, in doing so before I pay a mechanic.

Thanks

Holy Moly is that detailed!

That also gave me my final answer as to whether or not I will attempt that! I will stick with furthering my mechanical skills in the art of air intakes and exhaust systems!

It's really not that difficult...just have your tools, a couple hours, and patience.
Hey, it's just nuts and bolts...not brain surgery.

...a beer or two won't hurt either.

DH just put mine on this last weekend. He is not mechanic, he said that it's straight forward, if you can follow instructions and can turn a wrench, you can handle this. He adds, that Randy Webbs instructions are idiot proof. He rented a puller kit from Promini http://www.promini.com/product-exec/...category_id/28
I say go for it!

Anyone know if you should upgrade any other part on your MCS prior to the pulley upgrade.
I've got a stock MCS and if thats my only upgrade am I gonna have issues later > ex. Engine damage, excessive wear, etc.

I noticed on M7 website they recommend they're bigger fuel injectors to avoid engine issues.
This a fact?

-Thanks-

Pulley Install

I did mine about 2 weeks ago, and it wasn't that bad at all. I did it in the morning before going to work, so taking my time, doing it over a period of 3 mornings, for about 1hr per morning and runs fine now. Followed Randy's directions with the ProMini rental, best way to go to avoid install fees.
Cost, with shipping, about $200, not bad given Randy's install quote is $400, but then again, he is a professional.

I'm going to do it. Thanks for the input here, I feel better about doing this now. Anyone in the CT area have a pully?

I did mine last week. During re-assembly, I found an easy way to install the driver's side motor-mount bolt. If you tighten down the pass. side mount nut first (just line it up based on the scratch marks), you'll only have to adjust up & down to insert the driver's bolt. Otherwise, it's pretty tough to get it threaded.

Two other things:

Don't try using ramps instead of stands. I started that way & found the motor wanted to rock back too much as it was lifted. Switching to stands straightened things out.

Allow 5 minutes or more after disconnecting the battery before unplugging the ECU. According to the new Bentley manual, it and certain other components can retain power awhile after the battery is unhooked.

Have fun, but don't get caught!

OK, I did it. Was really not hard at all. I think I spent more time hunting down my tools when misplaced or when they fell down in the engine compartment then I think I did replacing the pulley. But really, it was a bit unnerving lifting the engine on my new MCS of only thee weeks, but with Randy’s write-up, it was a snap.
I will recommend that anyone with any wrench experience and a garage or shop floor to do it in should go ahead and do it yourself.

Hey onsled,

Any pointers on how to safely jack the mini on jack stands - been hearing some stories where the jack points are hollow plastic blocks with a retaining pin.

I've got my pulley on order and plan to do it with a friend next weekend, like you I'm nervous about the install, but more nervous about the safety factor now.

did you have any problems jacking up your mini? and how did you do it?

thanks

Sorry, I was up in NH this weekend with no internet access.

Jacking was cautious, but being that you are just jacking the front. It’s not much of a problem. Jacking on all fours is a bit tricky as the jack stands want to slide a bit. Once up things were OK. Just tack it real slow.
I'm sure you've already done this being that it's Sunday already. How'ed it go?

Good luck

hey onasled,

No I haven't done the upgrade yet - scheduled soon though. Still waiting on parts, but I did lift my car and noticed that the lift point did slip a little when lifting the opposite side.
I'll definitely take your advice on working on it slooow :P

Thanks
