CNC Milled Out Ports.
Although not quite ready yet,we will be including this with our stage 2 (and to follow around
May) stage 3 head work. Certainly no one else does (or is likely to do) this on the Mini.
We will be generating some quite complex cutter paths that start way down the port
and go through a 'smooth profile transition' , ending up at the manifold gasket face with the exact shape/ position /size of the gasket ( like within .002" or 50 microns!)
This is true 3D milling using long series 10mm ball nose cutters. This degree of 'perfection
in porting' is impossible to achieve by hand. We tried to do it by hand on the head of our
demo car,and although good it took 100 hours! and still not as good as milling it.
Of course there is still much hand porting to be done in the throat areas.
Once we have one completed it (March) I will put up a piccy (close up) of the portwork.
Best Regards Roland Gt Tuning

will you be re-shaping combustion chambers?

if you are doing larger exhaust valves, how much bigger are they and are you cutting back the valve heads ?

have you found any decent cam shafts ? (i went to the NEC in Birmingham , and spoke to a member of the SCHRICK team from GERMANY.they do the best cam i have seen, and was told that a vernier pully was not needed for their cams . only problem is i cannot buy direct.they only supply if you own a garage?????

thanks

Hi Clinton, yes there is some tidying up of the combustion chamber, the basic shape is fine though. There is also work on the valves,in fact the stage 3 will go beyond 'thinning out',
but is a little way off completion at the moment.
Regarding the vernier pulley /cams I will put a thread up explaining why adjustable cam timing is beneficial (even on a Schrick cam as if the brand should make any difference!)
