JCW Air Box

Ok guys i need your quick response I'm thinking of getting the JCW airbox ( i have an 04 MCS ) my question is it worth it ? i know 5 hp isn't alot and the car opens up more at 4500 rpms when the other flap opens up > my question does it improve the driveabilty of the car in all rpm ranges ??? or is it just a waste of 475.00 dollars? and does it make the car louder at idle?

I like mine

I don't have anything to compare it to since I had mine on when I picked it up and I haven't driven any other CAI's but I like it. Since mine is still in break-in I haven't broken the 4,500rpm barrier much but when I've needed to the power has been good. I also feel like it gives me more power lower (probably from the injectors that are also included). The MA that sold me the car was impressed. It was the first she'd seen with that addittion (and not the whole JCW) and said she'd have to get it for her car also. Just my 1 cent (don't have another to offer)

Its hard to tell if it adds much power (but its probably hard to tell a 5hp diff anyways). It does look OEM under the hood/bonnet which (in my opinion) a definite plus over other aftermarket intakes. Plus the sound is pretty nice once the flap opens up (and sometimes you want things quiet, when the flap is closed which is nice too) When I first put it on I found myself driving the car a little harder so I could hear the sweet whine.

Enjoy!

Erik

get it. I LUV mine. And make sure they install the larger fuel injectors and re-map the ECU. There are two "versions" of the airbox upgrade out there.

Early is on time; On time is late.

Actually, there is the $450 JCW Air Filter Kit and the $560 JCW Upgrade Kit.

The latter Kit includes larger fuel injectors and an ECU remap in addition to the JCW Air Filter, and is intended to upgrade the older JCW Engine Tuning Kit to 207 hp. Something which has been poplular over on NAM is two people splitting the cost of the Upgrade Kit with one person taking the air filter and the other the larger injectors.

I fi wanted to get an aftermarket CAI (GTT or Alta for example) then i would get rid of my JCW airbox. That's the first part....

...would then my JCW 210bhp kit take advantage of the new CAI (because of the 210 remap) or would it require a new ECU upgrade by a tuner?

?????

Also considering getting the Alta intercooler, so my JCW one would be going cheap, and again, would my JCW software handle the Alta intercooler?

?????

No ECU remap is required for either an intake or intercooler.

The JCW Air Filter can be added to a stock car and doesn't require an ECU remap, so why should any other intake.

I don't think a larger intercooler adds horsepower ... it prevents horsepower loss

....and of course your JCW intercooler as you put it, is stock, with the JCW Silver cover !

Therefore I can't really see there being many buyers, unfortunately.

there was someone on here that ordered the full kit rather than just the air filter, then found out that the injectors should not have been fitted so had to remove them

Might be worth using the search function to find more information on it
