My take on the horsepower is that it is totally due to the increased redline. Not surprising, since most of the car is just an assembly of currently available parts and options.

Configured the same car from MINIIUSA.com this morning, as close as I could, and still feel that the GP is a value. I am still pretty happy to be on the list. Or on the list to receive.

Good wife.

I have not read that mentioned anywhere. That's new to me.

Ok I've had a look and judging by the pic below the Rev limit has been raised slightly. What effect does that have?

Good explanation here:

In short, a good "easy" way to get a better BHP figure on the MINI is to increase the rev limit.

I asked the same question earlier in the thread ...

http://www.mini2.com/forum/2291013-post1429.html

Horsepower is 160kW at 7100rpm.

Torque was originally quoted as 250Nm at 4600rpm.

So for all the pre-amble and talk of engine tuning.... they've raised the limiter?

Where did you get that figure from Ron?

What I don't get is if the Max torque remains at the same Revs as the Works Kit, how is raising the Rev Limit going to help?

I believe it's what was originally posted for the GP.

Edit ...

MINI USA is showing torque at 184ft-lb (250Nm) but with disclaimer

NOTE: Horsepower figure is "actual" not metric

It looks like they've changed it unless the GP brochure is wrong.

Press Release on JCW's website..

http://www.johncooper.co.uk/JohnCoop...%20GP%20Launch

maximum torque of 245 Nm

So basically this car has no more power than a 210 JCW. Any gains will only be down to the lower weight.
