Well I was trying to find out wtf a De Tomasso mini was, and I found this article. I especially love the last couple of lines. Its from before the new Mini launch and its hard to beleive the author of the article could be so wrong, with the benifit of our hindsight of course... http://www.jyanet.com/cap/1999/0919fe2a.htm

Tony: I don't think the author is *wrong*, he just didn't get the point of the new Mini. Let's face it, the new Mini is not a miracle of space. It is actually quite big (put it along side a classic Mini and I'm sure you'll see what I mean) and although you get a better driver position, you are actually down on practicality (I do believe rear passengers actually have more space in a classic Mini then in a new Mini, believe it or not). The "problem" with this author's analysis is that he expects the new Mini to have to sell on the same points the classic was intended to in 1959: space and practicality in a small package. And it certainly does fail miserably, in that department, and is indeed beaten hands down by the A-class. However, we now know (and considering BMW are not total idiots, the author could have known back when he wrote this) that was not the intention at all. The new Mini was supposed to be a driver's car, much more building on the characteristics the original Mini had by "accident" rather than by design (which, incidentally, I why I love them, personally; I couldn't care less about practicallity ).As for Innocenti, they were licensed to build classic Mini's in Italy, and they were actually a separate company (although I do think it was partially owned by BMC). Actually, many innovations were first thought up in Italy, such as the rear lights with integrated reverse lights. The boxy Innocenti Mini was a car developed by Innocenti based on Mini running gear, but before that they made "normal" Mini's. I don't think using either the Innocenti or De Tomaso names makes a lot of sense, TBH. (Much like using the "Clubman" name for the estate version is a bit "misguided", as the Clubman is a version of the old Mini with a bigger front end, not an estate version. There was a Clubman Estate, but the part of that name referring to the length of the car was, well, "estate").

This weeks autocar covers what they are calling the Leightweight Cooper CSL, detailing 15% reduction in weight utilising CF bonnet, roof and door mirrors, with a stripped out interior. theres a picture of a silver MCS Works with what appears to be a CF bonnet, but I think its a photoshop job. It also talks of further engine tweeks to increase power... Its almost as if Autocar have been reading Mini2.... or at least, so it seems. They also show spy shots of a Mini Traveler, which has an extended wheel base. This is, unusually for Autocar, an actual photo, not a photoshop job, of the car in testing in Germany. Looks like a Mini van to me, call it what you like.
