| So are the cars built? http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/4083/038if.jpg ![]() I'm started to get ****ed off now...........if my car is built I want to now NOT September. |

| The only explination is that they are producing cars by regional setup. As cars destined for places such as the USA will take longer to deliver then maybe the initial batches are those cars are being built first? We all assume that they are being built in the order of the roof number, but my understanding is that the roof no is your place on the order/waiting list. It would be quite simple to build them out of this sequence to meet delivery dates. Put it this way at a rate of 30 cars a day 5 days a week it will take 14 weeks to do the production run. They were meant to start production in week 18 so this would mean that week 32 would be last production week. That fits in with the delivery details peole have been getting. Looking at the number thread not that many people have put down delivery dates, would be interesting to know what numbers are being released when. (For example the Monterey delivery - what spread of numbers do we have there? - it would give some indication of possible manufacturing planning) Edit:- Zstngs car is roughly 500 cars before mine by number, but delivery to dealer is around the same time - both UK spec cars. |
| ||||
| We have to assume that the country block number allocations were not fixed, eg the UK did not get 0001 to 0444. Its all on a first come first served basis. So say 0002 goes to Germany, 0003 America, 0004 Australia etc, etc The number thread supports this because of the spread of numbers within each target country. They are not going to build different cars to different regional spec on an individual basis. The production management and logistics would be a nightmare. They will build in batches, eg right hand drive UK spec then right hand drive Australian spec etc The delivery/release date will also play a part in the production planning. If 0002 is going to be delivered at the same time as 0003 but they are going to different coutries they will need different delivery lead times. So going by my previous number allocation 0002 is going to Germany 0003 is going to America. 0003 needs to be built before 0002 so it meets its delivery target date. (Transport time - customs requirements etc) Mini are not going to build individual cars and dispatch them out as they finish them - based purely on the roof number order. It will be in manageable blocks controlled by a number of production management factors. From a customers viewpoint its all pants, but from a production standpoint it makes sense. |

| I've only just noticed how low the GP is... http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/9158/018wt1.jpg Loads of speed bumps round my way. |
| ||||
| I don't think the roof number has anything at all to do with when it was bought nor where it is going nor when it will be delivered. We'll get a better idea once some of us in the States finally get numbers but I think you'll see there is no correlation at all. And, yes, it is mighty low which, as always, looks fantastic but is quite impractical....I wonder if the lowest level of the body work can easily come on and off as I might remove it for winter. 05 WRX STi and 06 GSX-R600 MCS JCW GP on order..... |
