The delivery/release date will also play a part in the production planning. So going by my previous number allocation 0002 is going to Germany 0003 is going to America. 0003 needs to be built before 0002 so it meets its delivery target date. (Transport time - customs requirements etc)

Mini are not going to build individual cars and dispatch them out as they finish them - based purely on the roof number order. It will be in manageable blocks controlled by a number of production management factors.

From a customers viewpoint its all pants, but from a production standpoint it makes sense.

Allocating say.........1 to 444 to the UK would have made more sense. But I get what you're saying.

Dealers are crying out for cars to stick in the showrooms another missed advertising opportunity.

The user manual pretty much said that speed bumps would be a problem with the underfloor panelling. Great when you have one of the damn things on the road at the bottom of your drive.......

Wonder what the parts availability will be like if you damage one?

If they did it that way it would make allocating spare cars to other countries more difficult. You can see why they have done it this way. Annoying but understandable.

From a dealers point of view having one of these sitting in the showroom would be great for attracting people. Who cares if the GP is all sold out, as long as it helps attract passing trade they can always try to sell something else instead.

When I bought a 106 Rallye the white cars were all sold out and I ended up having to have a blue one. Yet my dealer had a white one sat in the showroom (Borrowed off the customer in return for some incentives) simply because it pulled punters onto their site.

They were allocated Demos for just that reason. My dealer was kind enough to give me theirs.

When I bought mine the dealers were not being allowed demo cars, everything was to specific customer order by name. (There was the special order form) Any demos would have had to have been bought and registered to a member of staff so any demos would have ended up being pre-owned.

Maybe they relaxed that rule but even up to when they sold out my dealer could still not get one.
