you gotta dream a bit more Mo.... You don't need a specialist coachbuilder like Bertone to assemble a lightweight but essentially production similar car.... why would you go to the expence of shipping full bodyshell cars to Italy for them to bolt on a few CF bits n bobs, and a bit less interior clutter.... Vauxhaul used to ship them Astra's, then they would litterally saw the bloody roof off to create convertibles... Go on, dream a little. I know we'll all end up dissapointed anyway, but why not dream a little anyways...?

From the Automotive News article: "Bertone will receive bodies in white from Mini's plant in Oxford, England, and complete final assembly in its plant in Grugliasco, near Turin" Does this mean we are looking at an all-white MINI (or at least mostly white) similar to the M3 CSL with some sort of graphics or does the above phrase imply something else? 07 Honda Accord V6 6-speed Taffeta White/Tan (wife's) 06 MINI Cooper S JCW Checkmate Astro Black/Silver ![]()

Body-in-white is an industry term for the car shell, before anything is fitted to it - it means that Bertone will build the whole car from the ground (body shell) up! (It originated when bodies used to be painted white during vehicle development so that the designers could see the light (and therefore shape) on them better). David 2003 Mini Cooper S - DS/B

I'm still not convinced that its a convertible, thats not very lightweight the main reason for outsourcing IMO is that there is the facility at Oxford, or the space to hand build these MINI's, which is how they will be built, not on a production line, and the reason for Bertone is as a sweetener to closing on a deal before the order book was produced. Still believe this will be a tin top, I really wish it was some kind of convertible, but it just doesn't add up to make a lightweight convertible.

Finally taken the plunge Been lurking here for a while. Finally decided to take the plunge. (Nice place you've got here by the way Paul)! Phoned my local North London dealer this afternoon and put down a deposit for the rumoured lightweight. They were very helpful. They said that they'd been expecting a number of calls about the model, but that so far I was the first person to contact them about it. So I'm now officially number one on their list. They referred to it as a CSL, but said that as yet they didn't have much information about it, apart from it being based on the CS. They said they expect to have full details about specs and pricing by the end of the year. I'd better start saving quick!
