| Easy. Take your Certificate of Entitlement to your dealer and tell them you want your private plate on your new car when you pick it up. If you wait until you've got the car it can be a proper pain in the a**e, especially if you don't live near a DVLA office!! |
| ||||
| In which case get the form you'll need off your dealer when you pick the car up. As soon as you get the V5 for your GP back from the DVLA take it, your Certificate of Entitlement, the current Tax Disc and this form to your local DVLA office. You'll probably have to queue for a while, if your local office is anything like mine! The DVLA bod behind the counter will stamp lots of things and press lots of buttons before handing you the back page of your V5 and a replacement tax disc showing your new number. If you want to be 100% legal make sure you have plates made up for your new number before you go and fit them in the DVLA car park before you drive off, but that's your call. Depending on how 'by the book' your local office is, it might be a good idea to get your insurance company to reissue your certificate showing your new plate to start on the day you plan to do the swap, as they may ask to see it but don't always. Good luck!! |

| Our local office has a 7 day minimum turnround for this now!! Used to be same day but they were getting swamped with private plate transfers so they imposed this 7 day rule. And they stick to it!! My JCW S I just bought sat at the dealers ready to go for 7 days just waiting for my number plate to be transfered! |
| ||||
| The 7 Day Minimum is for Cherished Transfers from another vehicle - and has always been the DVLA standard time for this service, they just didn't used to hide behind it as an excuse for being s*** at doing what we pay them to do. Transferring numbers from retention, or allocating new numbers, are still done over the counter. |

I've used Douglas Park in Hamilton and Henry Bros in Glasgow, not too impressed. With both a bought a new mini (Cooper S and the GP) but I got charged £250 for a wheel alignment on my first car and was told it was because I went over a pot hole??? Did I? becasue I wasnt aware of it. Even then the car came back exactly the same. I suppose there's a price to pay if I want the car. |

| it arrived! Went and picked up the GP at lunchtime - unfortunately it has been raining quite badly here so havent really gone for a proper run in it yet however the few miles back from the garage down the A3 was awesome! It is one outstanding car - can't get the big grin off my face I shall take it for a better run tomorrow and get some more pics but I am hoping I have managed to upload one of me at the garage with my new baby ![]() Oh - anyone know how to stick carpet onto garage walls? Think that might also be a job for tomorrow...just in case;-) |
