Installed a JCW Strut Brace on GP0032. Pretty straightforward installation. Larned that the JCW garage folks jack up one side of the car (weight off wheel; wheel not off the ground) before they make the final adjustment & tighten up the cross bar. This "pre-loads" the bar. The hood insulation is thicker than on earlier models (pre 06) so there is some rubbing in that regard. Since I installed the bar the first night I had the car, I can't tell you what it handled like without it. There are some who say a JCW strut brace is mere "bling" and not as functional as others out there; but it fits, looks good, and hey, it says "JCW" There are a ton of posts on mini2 about this topic. Do a search to find a ton of opinions on the matter ![]()

Well, I beg to differ, based on my 12 years of SCCA racing a GT5 Mini Cooper, I will bias the front stress bar, and more importantly, the rear sway bar, to the side I determine to be most in need of stiffening. In racing, that varied according to the track one was competing on. Now, for everyday use I think I will not bias it to one side or the other. I installed by current front stress bar in a non-biased fashion, and am happy with the way the car feels, but I have never had it on the track, which is the ONLY place I think one car really feel a difference. But anyway...... Just thought I'd ask to see what answer I got. Cheers,

The JCW stress bar is a hinged design is it not?...I can see why there are those who say its 'bling' because of that. On my '05 Cooper S, the non-hinged racing dynamics front stress bar made a night and day difference before and after...I have always wondered if the improvement was from the addition of 'a bar' or the design of the bar itself.

I'd venture to say, IMHO, it's just the bar. I noticed a big difference in my 02 S, pre-bar vs. post. I installed the (early avaialbe in 02) Pro-MINI manufactured nice-looking double tubular bar, hinged and with an ecentric pre-loadable pin in the hinge area. I just cranked on it a bit when I installed, to tighten it up, without jacking up one side to give it more of a pre-load. Actually, at first I turned it to the tightest position possible, and it worked fine, then later I loosened it up a lot, but did not notice any difference. All that, mind you, with only "lively", brisk street driving as a reference point. Speaking of that, where is the bar, anyway? I could use a good eye-opener right now!

Billy, My dealership had one in stock last week, so they do now exist (sorry I don't have the part number) - but note that it's an *indoor* cover, not suitable for outdoor protection of the car.
