Where can i buy those wheels Damo....

Also, need to know the engine output of your revamped 'GP'.... I'm guessing somewhere in the region of 232bhp and a 15% weight reduction..... where do I sign?

I was so excited about this car, 15% power reduction, min 220bhp, carbon fibre body kit.......I was expecting something proper hardcore. That thing is a MCS with a few tarted body kit bits and some JCW parts. BMW should are blatantly just trying to cash in. That car is a disgrace.

I am gutted !!

LMB, you sound like you've been on the hard stuff when writing this, but you know, you speak the truth.

The compromises that have been put into this design in no way justify themselves for the paltry weight reduction and dismal power increase. And it currently aint that pretty either. But I am expecting some minor cosmetic modifications by the time it goes to manufacture - as BMW/mini can't be so stupid as to not read these opinions on M2 and NAM and Motoringfile....

Put it this way, without a back seat, the rear of the car becomes unusable for anything - even the boot will be useless for carrying home your shopping etc because everytime you use it stuff will be flying around. At least the 'Rear seat delete' kit advertised on NAM allows you to keep the boot area seperate whilst still saving 38lbs.

I don't agree that "the rear of the car becomes unusable for anything" without the back seats

Damo, I am interested to see your modifications but can't work out the purpose of the big red post that is sticking out of the roof

Well, having had my own rear seats out for a week, it became rather obvious that anything put in the back needed tieing down otherwise it went flying around the cabin. Fortuantly I was able to liberate a luguage net from one of our work pool cars to stop a take away curry being thrown around the cabin...

Obviously, I would expect Mini are going to have some kind system to deal with this. But with the large brace spanning the rear area you won't even be able to use it as a "delivery van", despite people saying thats what it reminds them of with the blacked out rear windows....

I was wondering too last night why they decided not to encorporate a roll cage into the design, then realised this was probably because most insurance comapnies specify the inclusion of a role cage is against their policies on road cars (not all do though).

This idea of a stripped out lightweight that doesn't have a roll cage but has aircon just isn't fitting any sensible slot - if there was to be some kind of one make series like some manufacturers have done then it would definatly need more saftey gear - cut out switches, roll cage.. I suppose this might be related to why they haven't released pictures of the inside - they are probably argueing over these kind of details. I guess they can always say "well we didn't say it wouldn't have a roll cage" when they released the specs last week....

GP vote

Can you guys that haven't voted yet please go here and express your opinions and vote....

http://www.mini2.com/forum/poll.php?...ts&pollid=1886

IF BWM haven't fully signed this design off yet, and IF therefore they might be inclined to as yet makes changes before production then they will only do so if enough people tell them that chanages are needed.....

Because despite my views on this thread, I dearly wanted some kinda stripped out lightweight track car, and have been very dissapointed so far. I copuld afford an exige if I wanted one, but still love my Mini after three years, and as many of you know, I am not afraid to thrash my car around the track.... so please vote and maybe, just maybe, BMW will see the light and yet enhance their final Mk1 New Mini....
