I received my deposit back the other day so that is that. I have to admit I feel quite sad about it.

The photo shopped version, of a car which seems to have been unanimously derided, might look better. However, the other one is parked outside my house - it's real, it's lovely and in a minute I'm gonna blast round Malvern in it.

Nonethe less Damo's photoshopping has been an acknowledged inspiration to us. Here's are Cooper, which keeps the family look with a bit of "A" pillar tarting up.

But you have a lovely car already

I picked up my new MCS (bare bones spec) on Thursday and had my first proper experience of it, yesterday. Okay, it's early days (there's still only 90 miles on the clock, for cying out loud!). So, my remarks might be premature and the impact might wear off as I get used to it -- but I really think it is probably all the car I need as it stands. Sure, a year down the road I might fancy a different colour or sexier wheels, even JCW but it's hard to imagine that I could do justice to the GP. Initially, I was excited about the spec. but I wouldn't track-day it and, on the road, I think the lack of sound deadening might be a pain, not to mention the low ground clearance and the fact that those one-off looks might attract all the boy racers who want to have a go at me. The thing that's hardest to say is this: I probably wouldn't do it justice as a driver. With motorway limits more rigorously enforced, speed cameras and sheer volume of traffic, a MCS gives me- I think - as much performance (acceleration, speed, handling) as I can handle in the conditions. Were I younger and wilder - or could afford a separate car for Jekyl & Hyde moods - then, perhaps, the GP would be great. But I no longer qualify and so, I'll probably withdraw my
deposit, enjoy mynew car and keep my options open for its, eventual, replacement.

I'm sure that, like me, you'll soon find another car to replace the GP on your wishlist. In my experience, we can talk ourselves out of things as easily as we can talk ourselves into them! So, don't be sad. As I said, you already have a super car.

I agree with a lot of what you say. I've said during other discussions that 200bhp is more than enough for real world driving. I find it hard enough as it is to keep to speed limits.

I have just always wanted to own at least one hardcore road car. I am a huge fan of cars such as the Clio V6 and the Exige. And when I heard Mini were building one I was over the moon. I think the sadness comes from that excitement coming to an end. I am sure the final version will be a good car, it is just not what I was expecting.

But hey.......as you say I do already have a nice car. So it's not all bad.

Well I love My Cooper S too just as it is ! Blue everywhere, roof, mirrors, carpet, dash and seats ! Blue really is THE colour ! It's a total hoot and 170BHP is enough for me and the twistly bits around here !

All I know is, If I were in the market for a GP (which I'm not due tot he fact that I have three people in my family) my Works GP would soon have 240+bhp.

Thing is, the new Focus ST has 225bhp. The new Civic Type R will be announced soon, bound to have 240bhp. The Astra VXR has around 240bhp, the New Leon will get at least 225, maybe more.

218bhp will look a little 'last year'.

The car's look is really growing on me. Thanks for posting the pics! I like it, especially the wheels, and the side skirts.

Sorry about the quality of these pics it seems that Privilege Membership has not been fully re-instated (45Kb per pic)

Max

Thank you Max. The car was starting to grow on me and I was beginning to wish I'd left my deposit. Then I saw your pics and realised I'd made the right choice.

Honestly... I've been feeling gutted all weekend.

Mo - I know the opinion of a slowcoach doesn't mean much, but I think you've made the right decision - Each to their own, but this so called special edition's a joke, and I think whoever buys one will regret it about 24 hrs after picking it up. You're right - It should have been better.

Those wheels don't seem to do a particularly good job of filling the arches. They look like 16's in the piccies...

Ok here is the scenario..........

Put name down, dealership changed hands, new owners, new staff, didn't feel happy following through with the purchase, but still put the deposit down as didn't want to loose No. 1 slot.

Found out brand manager had gone to another dealership, more local to me. However, deposit was now down. Saw Milano pics, didn't much like it, dealer phoned up asking for more cash, saw a way out and took it.

Car is now growing on me, I think I want one. Have contacted previous brand manager to see if I can deal with him and whether he can sort me out.

…we’ll see
