Wonder if you could put a spare tire mount on the bar?

your right. sorry.

However, still think this could be one of the most suspect bits on this car though, if it serves no real purpose. If it was to stop stuff I would expect something more robust, with a net to stop things going under it.

My suspision is its there simply to stop people riding in the rear area unrestrained.

From Top Gear Magazine..http://www.topgear.com/content/news/stories/574/

Hot Mini is big in Geneva

Mini is only making 2,000 of the hot GP version and most of those have been sold already, so the car on the Geneva stand is simply an exercise in good old flag waving.

Why not? The Mini GP looks great and is one of the favourites of the Geneva show.

The stripped-out interior has been causing a stir thanks to the huge brace running between the rear inner wheelarches.

Mini is quick to point out the handling benefits the brace brings and that it helps make the most of the GP's 218bhp.

Only 444 Mini GPs are to be sold in the UK, so if you fancy one you'd better start whistling 'The Self Preservation Society' and get down to your local dealer soon.

So maybe it is for handling purposes after all.

I wouldn't believe all you read in the press. The head of the project told me and other journalists it wasn't, I'm happy with that, especially with the views expressed by others on here about it's location.

I like the brace. Think how many Majic Trees you could hang round that would have the interior smelling lovely. Or I could get a small hook and use it for hanging my handbag on.

The uses for the brace are endless.

Did they say what the purpose of it is?

It is like a mystery.
