OK, Todd--what should we be asking, and who should we be talking to?

And the Number of Monterey GP Deliveries is ????

Todd,
What your "educated" (insider information) guess on the number of cars MINI will be delivering in Monterey. Without the privilege of talking to someone like JW directly, my expectation would be between 25 and 30 at first glance, 35 if they're lucky.

My sense is that most dealers don't really give a crap about the program since it's not earning them any additional dollars. I say most because some have been very enthusiastic (and tolerant of obsessive MINI owners) in processing the requests for new GP owners who want to pay the $2,000.

But for the most part, I don't think MINI did enough to convince folks that the $2,000 was a fair amount, considering when you're getting the car (Historic's Week), what the cost of the event package represents, and how much the transportation costs are these days with the high cost of diesel fuel.

Which brings up the question: Are the Monterey GP's going to be processes at the VDC in New Jersey, and trucked across the US; or will they be transported by ship directly to So. Cal?

Imagine, owning a car that's hand built by Italians, gone through the Panama Canal, and 230 HP as well. (oops)

I dont think a WHPS actually knows anything, they just read from a pre prepared script of spin don't they
I guess you are lucky they just read and dont have opinions on anything, but if they did have opinions it would make press conferences much more interesting

Numbers ?

Had a phone call from my dealer today.

My car is now down for week 30 production and delivery on week 33. This means that delivery will now be on 17th Aug.

My dealer told me that the distribution of numbers will be based on your chassis number. My number is ****142, therefore my GP No. will be 0142. They also told me that their demonstrator is down for a later build than mine with a chassis No. of ****400 (GP 0400)

Isn't it strange that a dealer would have a GP demonstrator considering that by the time they receive it they won't be able to get anymore. I presume they want to put a few miles on it so they can sell it (hopefully) for a higher price as a "used" car. I'm surprised MINI is letting them do that; can we infer that UK GP demand is not very strong? Or is the demand strong and the dealer has found a way to charge a higher price?

Funny enough you are dead right. When I visited the dealership about a month ago, they said that the sales staff planned on thrashing it around for a while and then sell it on for the full UK price.

80% of the UK allocation has been sold on pre-order.

Just heard I am looking at 0038 and available for 7th July (build date mid-June). Love my dealer!

Still got to decide if I keep it pristine or change to black mirror caps. He's got some in already, just in case.
