Order of Manufacture and GP Number I would guess that MINI will assign numbers to the cars in random order, just like high-end Swiss watch manufactirers do with limited editions of 100, 200, or 5,000 watches. There may be no correlation between the number of the car and the date of production. It remains to be seen if the GP number will also match (or not) the last 4 digits in the VIN number.

Not Many Left I put down a deposit today on the last one in Detroit. I'm in Utah and called 16 Mini Dealerships this morning - all between Sacramento and Detroit until I found one avail for MSRP. Generally speaking, most had deposits on their 4 or 5 with further waiting lists of 5-15. Some required deposts just to get on a waiting list. Some notes from my other findings for anyone scrambling for one: St. Louis has 2 left but at $33,650 Sacramento has 2 not yet taken but no price yet set so it sounded like it would be a big mark up Vegas did set a price at +$1500 and has 12 people to go thru in the next couple days to see who wants them Seattle is planning to auction all 4 of theirs off, bidding starting at $32,000 Milwaukee just took their last deposit but had no waiting list yet All the following had taken deposits on their 4 or 5 but most offered to put me on their list. Portland, Albuquerque, Salt Lake, Denver, KC, Minneapolis, Indy, all 3 in Chicago I don't see where many other cars are gonna come from, though....No one I talked to was getting more than 5. I'm still not even sure I want the car. I'm psyched to get it for sticker, I really think it's a deal but I am worried it will just feel too slow. I've got an 05 Impreza STi now that is obviously way faster but I've never totally fallen in love with it.....we'll see.....

Whew! I finally got word that my Monterey application was in fact received and all is well, I hope. My original application was e-mailed to the wrong address and bounced back. It was then sent on to the correct address. A message from my dealer today confirmed that MINI USA acknowledged receipt of my application however no indication as to whether it was "accepted". I don't think any of us will know for sure about acceptance for the special delivery until after the application deadline on the 15th. That's to be expected so I'm going to relax for the next week or so.

You should be ok Todd, remember that they want as many people as possible to participate in MTTS. Here's hoping. I don't think that there are that many people around who are willing to kick in the non-refundable fee for the Monterey delivery. At least that is what my optomistic side is telling me. ![]()

I have to say, got to feel so sorry for you guys trying to buy a GP in the states. It all sounds so complicated. And as having to put deposits in dealers bank accounts for them to earn interest on cars that they can't promise to deliver! Still only 80% of the allocation sold here in UK. So maybe with any luck when the UK dealers close orders on 12th May and all unsold allocations returned to Mini HQ, they may decided to increase the amount of units heading for the States.
