ok well took it in. the WORKS logo is 100% clean now. they used normal car polish and i am not kidding: it was 100% clean and removed within less than 1 min work. so that problem is out of the way

as to pic #3: i cant figure out where you took this from. can u explain?

DSC: Have not tried my GP with it off. should i ? been fun so far, and I am closing on 5000 miles now. no idea what will be the differnce.

Lorien,
[re your sig]
turn off your DSC sometimes; get the tires squealing
Just leave DSC turned on in normal driving so it's there just in case ...

I've also been getting a lot of marking to the WORKS logo. Someone at a mini show with the same problem told me to clean it with WD40. It works a treat.

Changed the gear knob yesterday for the JCW Carbon Fibre version, It's a remarkable improvement not just in how it looks, but the shifting action and feel are somehow more tactile and positive, I found myself changing down a cog or two on bends where I normally would'nt bother just because it felt so good compared to the standard one.
Probably a bit lighter too

Pics Please .............
(Yes, Yes!....I know what it looks like, I'd just like to see how it blends into the Interior of the GP specifically, (and gives you an excuse to show off! )-) Many Thanks

I'm thinking of getting the JCW Handbrake grip anyway, Once I find out how to get the old one off! , so I might consider the Gear Knob.

Sorry for late reply, been away a while.

The third photograph was taken looking directly up to the inside of the bonnet if this helps?

DSC off in dry weather = loadsafun

The GP is safely tucked away in ******* at the moment, but will be back on the road in the new year. Pics will be talken then, but the colour match is fine with the gaiter and it looks a lot better then the standard jobbie. It feels really good too, even in cold weather it seems warm to the touch which encourages you to drop a cog or two even when you really dont need to on those S bends

Goonery,
How difficult a job is it to replace the standard knob with the JCW Carbon Fiber one? Is it just "pull up with all your might" and that's it; or is there more to it?

The JCW shifter is listed at $400 retail from USA dealers; or $320 from those that regularily provide a discount. Is the cost similar in the UK?

Charlie

Can't help with the fitting of the gear knob; I'm still trying to work out how to get my hanbrake grip off!

....But both the Alacantara and Leather Gear Knobs/'Shifters' were priced at £41.21 on the John Cooper website last week (they are now sold out btw), I think that's around $80- a lot less than what your being quoted!
I wouldn't think they would cost that much more from the stealer, so if you wanted one you could always have one sent over - it would still cost a lot less than $320!!

Just pull hard or use a gentle tap with a soft faced mallet on the underside. Then theres a little plastic finisher collar which clips over the gear lever itself below the ferrule which the gearknob sits on. that slides up into the base of the knob when its fitted to keep it all tidy and neat.
Still not anywhere near the car, so can't post pics, but an instuction sheet is available if you need it
