South Africa
South Africa my 2 bits worth...

hey everyone! i have been following the Xenon light saga with great interest as i am a GP owner in South Africa and i would gladly give my left testicle to be able to install a set of Xenon's in my GP.
i downloaded the pdf, checked under my car, looked at the R56 and have been tempted to make macmini's pic of his modded GP my desktop! all this to keep my hopes up of being able to do this cost-effectively and properly which leads me to my one great question which i have not seen addressed or even brought up on the thread is one of Motorplan... would a retrofit (whether or not it is installed by BMWMini) invalidate it?
the reason i ask is i have a friend who works for a BMW approved bodyshop and i am at the top of the list for a set of Xenon headlamp units that can be recovered from pranged mini's! fitting them may be possible but if it invalidates my motorplan i don't know if i would do it...

Does that rule out a legal Xenon conversion for the GP?

Err... No, not if its done according to the book or PDF, but dealers don't seem interested and as the car would need trimming on the wheel and suspension settings for the lamps to be perfectly in sync as per factory fit Xenons I can see why its a very expensive mod Just a personal opinion mind you

The autoexpress thing doesn't say anything about this 'autoleveling'...

I have to admit I miss having Xenons big time. It looks like A LOT of work though, so I'm guessing it won't come cheap.

A fraction of the cost too (remember to order four, 2 x mainbeam & 2 x dipped beam)!

Aren't the washers there because if the lens gets dirty the focus/direction of the beam can be affected?
I came across some complete w****r in a Chelsea tractor parked on the wrong side of the road and blocking the oncoming traffic near Chelsea Bridge a few weeks ago (funny that Chelsea Tractor in Chelsea.......).
People were getting in and out of the car with no regards for other road users and worst of all because we had to drive around the vehicle I was hit by the full strength of the Xenon beams to point where it was physically painful - I could still feel it an hour later.

I have to agree, I came across a driver who's Xenon’s beam was all over the shot and I was literally blinded by them. Gave me an instant headache.
