EVO Car Of The Year

Looks like the RenaultSport F1 Megane 230 beat out the GP for top hatch honors in it's price category.

Interesting though on what the Megane comes with... turbocharging. Plenty of it in the mid range. Butt ugly car though the Megane.

We'll see if BMW takes a hint from this and creates the next gen GP at the end of the new Mini's run. They could certainly carry over what they've learned from their new 335i. That car got a lot of attention in the EVO issue. Gobs of fun, but in a tame interior.

Strap that kind of thinking onto a GP and watch out.

I still love my little supercharging GP though.

I saw the first RenaultSport F1 they built (200bhp I think), and it looked nice in the flesh. You also get a lot of bang for your buck.

doubt you will find it is. Its quite hardcore the 230

Having worked with evo for a short while I trust what they write, they are an increadably knowledgable and passionate for their performance cars. They were one of the only ones to slate the Aston Martin DB9, so much so Aston approached them to help improve it. They also critisised the new Clio 197 and even caused up cry by critising the Focus RS for its torque steer.
Also every comment ever made on the MINI is pretty much spot on, so there is substance to what they say.

What they dont consider often is a long term ownership propersition where no doubt the MINI would win

good compared to what? new Cleo? Seat Leon?

shouldn't even be listed on the same page with the GP or any Mini for that matter. Its simply a car. no art, no soul. nothing. 20 years from now no one will even give it a side look..

I thought about the megane R26 before I bought my GP, but according to Renaults website the car is only worth around £7000 after 20000 miles and two years!! This is a £20000 car. The drop would be way too much. My friend also had an older 225 and servicing costs were really expensive as well.

A great car ruined by poor residuals. Shame.

There is a Brand new golf megane f1 in my local renault dealers showroom.... 230 bhp if i remember correctly? well... i was looking at the figures of the car and they were very impressive. Inside the car was comfortable and looked good, i feel this car has been let down by the look of it from the outside, the rear end of the car looks aweful IMO. I thought about getting this car if i didnt go through with getting my r56 MCS coming on the 1st of march (Its Taking so long to come! ), what swayed my decision to go for the MCS as opposed to the Megane was the fact that Mini's hold their value so much better than renaults....the other reason was im in love with current mini and im going to be very sad to let it go... and i feel i will love my new mini just as much
