Sorry Himley date is no good for me due to work.

Exhaust is still not fixed! Wrong part was ordered!! At least they gave me a Clubman S until it's fixed tomorrow.

Mini JCW GP exhaust

Immediatley start getting worried - have I bottomed it out on something and caught it??? is something loose???

Take a good look underneath and can find nothing so get it booked into the dealers - they get it up on the ramps and after half an hour come back with the verdict....

Clean as a whistle underneath, no scrapes or knocks so its nothing I have done, on closer inspection the brackets on the exhaust mid section have rusted through on the welds and holed the exhaust. They are not happy with some of the other welds either. (On an 8 month old car never had this happen before!)

So while the cars in for its service on Tuesday they are replacing the whole system from the downpipe back under warranty. Downside is they cannot do anything about the noise until then as the exhaust is going to be sent back for examination and they cannot touch it...... so currently driving a very brappy GP!!! (Other than this more than pleased with the service im getting )

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem?

Hi,
Had the exact same problem at 13,000 miles. Knights of Stafford carried out a repair under warrenty but did not replace the exhaust, they cut out the central section and welded in / clamped on another section. I am not happy about this and have contacted MINI Cuistomer Services for advice and am waiting for a reply.
If anybody has had the same problem please advise if the whole rear section was replaced under warrenty or just the central section.

Thanks,
Ian W

When I had the exhaust problem with my GP at first they clamped another section into the central bit of the exhaust. It lasted about a week.

I took it back and they then clamped and welded it and it has held ever since, only about 2 months ago though.

Please post up what MINI Customer Services say about it.

Hi. I will post the customer service report as soon as they respond.

The new section of exhaust fitted by the dealer has 2 x 'U' type clamps just in front of the rear wheels, the clamps are quite big and can easily be seen when following my GP. I am concerned about ground clearance on speed bumps etc.
Does this sound similar to your repair ?
Also, did you notice any difference in sound, especially the lack of popping on over run ?

Ian, sorry for the delayed reply. I have had no problems with regards to ground clearance with the work that has been done. I have found that the exhaust still pops on over run, but I don't think as much as it did before the problem/repair. I am not sure if I am imagining this difference or not...

Really, I think the repair looks less than satisfactory - although it has rectified the blowing problem. I would be interested to see what MINI say to you.

thought i would add mine to the list too .just had to cut short the great north mini run due to the car sounding like a dumper truck.noticed it this morning pulling out of the camp site at 6.30 don't suppose that went down too well with the campers.got steadily worse over the next hour .will be going to dealers tomorrow will report back the result as it seems to vary from a new one to bodged repair update 02/05/08 dropped the car off at mini boldon this morning .mentioned about the number of people on this thread who have had problems and he said he was not aware of any problems .said he would put the car on the ramps in the afternoon fifteen mins later he was on the phone -getting new centre section fitted tomorrow.

Thumbs down

have had my car almost 2 months now. just turned 10K.

start of this week it started getting louder and turns out to be the same problems as most people have had on here,

seems that the centre bracket has parted and now my car is blowing at this point.

started quite quiet but now its a nightmare. and sounding quite crap.

calling the dealership today-again , to get hold of someone.

seems that they haven't made the exhaust meaty enough as a few exhausts are going at the same point.

Smile Parts - Under Warranty

Thought id update this incase anyone else has to go to dealership with same problem.

my car went in today , parts have been ordered for it to be fixed under warranty. which is good. as it should be .

although , when i first gave the keys in this morning , the woman was on about if a stone broke the exhaust ?????? it wouldnt be under warranty and how would i like to pay .Thought my P*ss was going to boil.

some people make u annoyed coming out with this sort of stuff.

anyways , its all good in the end , just needs to be fitted soon as the part(s) arrive.

Thank goodness this site is available for us Mini owners. My wife , who drives our 2006 JCW MCS complained to me the other day that the car sounded strange. We have only clocked 17k so far. So at first I was doubtful that the exhaust could fail so early. But a hands and knee plus ear inspection whilst the engine was running suggests that something is not quite right with the exhaust in the mid section. The car is booked into Klosters of Newcastle for next Tuesday. I will report back when they have inspected the car. This of course will be another Warranty job!

I promised that I would report back when the car was inspected. Well, as i suspected the mechanics at Klosters BMW/MINI found that the silencer box was cracked where the stays are welded on. This sounds like a stress fracture I hope that BMW have made the appropriate design modifications otherwise I will be back in 17K's time with the same problem.

Yup - I have the same problem....28,000 miles on my 06 JCW -- but I have a bonus to report.
They cut the exhaust system in half -- butted the tubes together and stuck a pipe clamp on it.
It only took a few days before it fell apart, I put it back together, and then it was a day before it fell apart AGAIN. So I'm trying to figure out why I don't have a whole new system, and am left with an EXTREMELY LOUD, and still not fixed mini?!!!!
Anybody know how the exhaust is supposed to be?

yep, your car is still in warranty so surely you just request a new exhaust!
secondly- they've damaged the exhaust after 'repairing' it so i see no reason why they wouldn't replace it now. (free of charge)
If you're having issues-speak to mini USA
Sound's like your dealer is just being an arse!
