JCW pre v post facelift power output

Guys Help me out!

Wifey and I both own 04 MCS 210's hers being a post facelift convertible and mine a pre hatch with the airbox upgrade carried out by BMW in Feb 07.

However when out racing ooops I mean cruising of course!, hers consistently pulls away in 5th gear, our unscientific test are not quite finished for other gears but hers does feel a bit more responsive. Same petrol & level, same luggage, etc.

Factor in that her car should be technically heavier, Its got me head scratching.

This is wrecking my ego and inflating hers!

Gearing changed between pre- and post-facelift - not sure if it would make a difference as I can't find the numbers to hand at this exact moment

Did your car get the larger injectors and related ECU remap when the airbox was upgraded?

Yep all done according to receipt, just wondering if the 7bhp hike between hike pre and post would cause this or wether my car is just being lame.

More than likely down to the revised gear ratios

We have the same issue, mine an 03 S and wifes an 05 S convertible, though neither is Works. Mine also has upgraded intercooler, leads, plugs and filter, wifes just has filter. Hers feels more urgent and like it has more get-up-and-go. Been told its down to ECU differences, upgraded supercharger and other minor tweeks that all add up. Anyway my answer is the pulley upgrade, which she's not getting, so there!! Than we'll see who's quickest! Oops, I mean whose feels more urgent under satisfactory road conditions orificer.

Thanx for this guys - can't believe a convertible can be quicker but seems so. I gave her so much grief about "drag" from the "rag" before she got her car too, so her victory is even sweeter now.

Bring on the track day I say or the twisty b roads and the scores will be evened out.

oh - other difference is that the facelift cars have lighter crankshaft pulleys - this will have an effect on how responsive/revvy the engine is - so will make if feel peppier or eager to rev.

how much lighter?,
i ask if its worth looking at after market crank pully then if you have 05 car? [assume same ratio]

Simple - Aftermarket crank pulleys are even lighter! - Still very much a worthwhile mod - but best when the ratio is changed along with the supercharger pulley - means greater response from the supercharger earlier in the rev range

Not answering that as she reads here, however she's no stranger to a chip (joke). Anyway we went out last night for a 3mile journey that turned into 70miles. The facelift deffo got away quicker each time and then mine would claw back , level and start to overtake. Don't know wether this was down to convertible weight/drag or the gearing of mine being more effective later in the rev range. Don't really care as at the mo the score is deffo level until our next encounter.

How easy it is to lose licence in JCW.

Hi Femstar - I also have an 04 MCS 210JCW. Fitted the GTT 3% lightened crank pulley last weekend. Rev pickup is much much quicker and SC turns faster - end result feels now feels like a facelift car when pulling away. Also JCW suffers from a hesitation at around 3000 -3500 rpm which always bothered me and thereafter pulls like crazy. Engine now revs through this range with hesitation totally gone. With the facelift gear ratios pretty much the same happens - you pass through this 'flat spot' quickly. Get this mod done, it perfectly compliments the JCW! Throughout the rev range the engine is very smooth. And go on a diet if weight is a problem...or put some lead bags in the convertibles boot
