I have just ordered an ITG filter, hopefully it is going to arrive tomorrow so I will be able to fit it at the weekend.

Firstly thanks for the guide, very easy to follow, have printed it out and will use it at the weekend.

It seems to be a good mod to disconnect the flap that opens at 4.5k RPM, where exactly is the flap??

Is it the small round hole in the bottom part of the air-box, as in picture 11? Or is it actually in the top part of the air-box, presumably that fits into the large oval’ish sized hole in the firewall also as in picture 11?

Excuse my questions, its just that I haven’t opened her up yet so don’t know the lay-out.

Plus also what’s the consensus of what to do with the flap and/or hose (again don’t know exactly what I’m talking about yet), should I just tie it/them up somewhere so that they still open but just don’t affect the air-box, or should I remove them altogether? (If so what actually should I remove?).

Thanks, Mark

Fitted the filter and removed the flap at the weekend, can’t say I’ve noticed a huge difference but it’s nice to know it’s in there.

While I was doing it all I looked at removing the bung in the bottom half of the air-box in-between the air-box and the fire-wall. If you take it out the air-box gains another hole to get more air through, like removing the flap.

The only ‘problem’ was there is a small gap between the air-box and fire-wall theoretically letting hot air from the engine bay get in.

I had a closer look at the bung and inside it was a plastic disc, I just popped this out and then was able to replace the bung which sealed the gap between the air-box and fire-wall but because the bung is now not blocked by the disc it will let some more air in.

Bonza.

Also, what peoples' view on removing the ‘motor’ that controls the flap, it seems to take up a lot of room in the air-box that would otherwise allow better air-flow to the filter.

The only problem would be what to do with the end of the vacuum hose that goes into it; would it be safe just to block the end up?

Really clear and simple to follow guide - thanks!

I struggled a bit getting the hose clamp back on (with pliers!) and wished I'd bothered to go buy a 'normal' clip. Got there in the end by sheer will power

Also gave it a 'flapectomy' while I was in there :-)

.. I kept the flap though and left the vacuum pump etc. in there, just in case I change my mind (like if my fuel consumption increases massively).

Sounds great though
