Useless

Anyone else finding that its impossible to get any power on the road in the current conditions? On my way home today I managed to light up the traction control in 3rd on a straight road, and accellerating in 2nd gear over 4000rpm was a waste of time, had the wheels spinning up at 60mph. It might be the tyres I have, 18" Dunlop Sport SP01s. Does anyone bother with winter tyres?

Or be a little less concerned about "getting power down" in rubbish weather/road conditions

You will remember that when its being towed out of a field

I have put two new tyres on the company people carrier / hack and they are more of van based tyre. Boy do they suck they are like two blocks of solid rubber burnouts are available in any gear.
I am glad to be not driving on the Yokohamas in this weather I had them on the S wheelspin in third just trying to drive let alone giving it the beans.

Erm....because its winter and the roads are slippery
You dont have to make your warning triangle flash, thats the whole idea
You can still have a spirited drive, just not as much
Oh, and just because im a girlie dosent mean i dont like and dont use that extra power, just when i can , and safely

If you "can't use it", maybe you should give it back to the nice man at the MINI dealers so he can sell it to a proper grown-up who knows how to have fun and not be a pratt in a car

If you have runflats and they are Dunlops then you won't be able to get a decent start in any car unless the tyres are nice and warm. In this weather thats virtually impossible unless you are on a track or driving on public roads like a complete prat. You could try changing the tyres, but I really think you need to temper your driving style.

The whole point of the traction control light is to warn of slippery conditions so that you know you need to cut cornering speeds and double (at least) braking distances. Without it you only find out when it's too late.

I've just bought a nice new oven - but I wouldn't dream of putting ice cream in there.

You have fun in a car by learning the skills to maintain control of it in inclement conditions.

Imagine for a moment that you're driving along in bad weather minding your own business, when all of a sudWHAM GRIND TINKLE, some stupid bugger smashes into the side of you. When you get out to exchange details, he says 'I was only having fun', and frankly, you would have to agree with him.

Steady on with safe driving lessons! I'm only trying to find out if other people are getting better results with different tyres. Frankly I don't like being called a pratt by someone who has never met me or seen my driving. I'm talking about driving down clear, straight roads, not exceeding the speed limits or breaking the law. I don't find the car lacking in lateral grip or when under braking, maybe I do need to be a little lighter with the right foot when accellerating. I never said anyone didn't like to have fun because they are a girl, or they have small todger. All I asked was does anyone bother with winter tyres because I find the Dunlops aren't great.

Hi Jamie,
I did not call you a prat, I just likened the fast take off with wheel spin in poor road conditions to that of a prat. Perhaps the gist of your original post alluded to a 'boy racer' trait. I also answered your question about the Dunlops.

No offence intended, tis the season of goodwill after all

Your never going to get super traction of big low profile tyres17s & 18s they are excellent in the dry but a compromise in the wet / inclement conditions. This time of year my standard 15s are coming into theyre own.
