strange strange noise whilst turning...

hello guys!!!

newbie here! I've just bought myself a cooper s works 55 plate with 6k on the clock, what a car! I had a GTI MK5 before and that was a great car but had all sorts of niggles...

but I seem to be getting this quite loud and weird noise which sounds like rubbing or something whist turning a tight corner!? I even heard it whilst test driving but the sales man said this is totally normal and they get loads of people coming in saying this and they just sit them in a brand new coopers s and they all do it! is this absolute bull or what!?

It does have 18'' rims on it could this be something to do with it......

hope someone can help

nicks

It could just be the electric power steering pump, but if you have the 18" Works wheels (like the ones in my pic) then it must have a steering lock limiter fitter or they will rub!

That could be the limited slip diff. They grind a bit when turning. Mine does this. Is it noticed when going slow and doing a tight turn?

I also have a 2005 jcw with 18" jcw rims. I had exactly the same noise coming from the front right of the car when making tight slow turns. I was also fed the 'speil' that as it has the 18" rims on it the spacers rub when making turns???

Finally a couple of weeks ago i put the car in for some warranty work and i had enough with the noise. Finally i picked it up and was told that there was an identified issue with the bearing or something(unfortunately i can not for the life of me remember exactly what it was) to do with the lubrication, i.e. minis had been giving the wrong viscosity lubrication, as such this was causing the rubbing noise.

Since they changed it i have not heard the noise once, woohoo!!

Sorry i could not be more clear about the problem, but something to do with 'bearings', lubrication etc...

This is actually an old issue that is easily resolved with an oil change as posted above. The LSD gear box simply requires an oil change to a correct viscosity and the noise will go away.
