United-Kingdom supercharger pulleys on jcw

hi everyone..

quick qeustion,,

has anyone regretted fitting a supercharger pulley to their jcw...

im toying with getting one and i dont know much about them and need some advice on them like i was looking at Alta Supercharger Pulley Version 2.0
do they really make that much differance..ive got the gtt intercooler already.

what percentage should i go for and whats the differeance.

do they affect the life of the supercharger

woould i have to change any other parts to compensate.

are they easy to fit and has anyone had any problems....

Thanks guys

The supercharger in a JCW Kit already has a reduction pulley.

I would go with the 15% pulley as this will spin the supercharger to nearly the maximum operating speed before you start generating too much heat through over spinning (17%,19% do this IMO)

Not quite, the pulley fitted to the JCW 210 spins the supercharger to it's maximum speed, anything over ~10% spins it past 16Krpm

By maximum speed, i mean the speed eaton define as the speed at which it can be spun with no detrimental effects to the life of the unit

The JCW has a 11ish% S/C reduction pulley.
BMW went this size to be conservative as it had to be covered by a factory warranty....
I have an 05 JCW and I changed it to a 16% S/C pulley and got another ~5-6hp
I also added a 2% crank pulley and got another ~8hp gain
I noticed a big difference particularly low/mid range.
Heaps of threads on the pro/cons of the different sizes.
Thousands of people are running with 15-17% S/C pulleys and they have now clocked up alot of km's on them with no major problems.
However it probably will affect the life of the supercharger, particularly if you are spending a lot of time up the high end of the rpm range.... but I don't care because it is now more fun to drive!
Hope this helps.

Surely all this doom & gloom about s/c life is purely based on the maximum amount of revs used on a regular basis. If, for eg a 17% pulley is used, then due to the increased torque, it is much less likely you'll need revs of 6.5K or whatever. Thus longevity of the s/c will not be in question.
Reasonable??

Richard
