United-Kingdom GP Problems and problems and Dealer

Hey there guys, ive been a Mini GP owner for nearly 2 months now, Bought it from Staffordshire Mini with 7700miles on clock- but i live in Manchester.

Within 2 weeks, my Muffler "Broke" - went to williams rochdale to get fixed -
a few days after that driver side electric window stopped working, - went to williams rochdale to get fixed - they did a bad job

Above problems have since been fixed however the window, is very slow as its rubbing against the rubber and Squeaks a lot

Now after 1700 miles the driver side tyre tread is barely legal - where as all the other tyres have atleast 2.5mm left -

Unfortunately when i got the car it was delivered to me after a c*ck up at the dealers with the finance - and i was very excited so i didnt bother checking each tread (Didnt think it was necessary)

Also under the bonnet on the "john cooper works" logo on the engine, it has a very bad strike through burn mark across it??

Am i within my right to ask the Staffordshire dealer for a list of what has been replaced and checked on the car before i got it including what tread was from when they did theyre so called 100 point inspection or whatever.

I dont see how one tyre can loose tread and the others nothing.

It just doesnt seem right.

Let me know what you guys think

P.S To mods, i apologise if this is in the wrong thread

Thanks

Ric Glancy

When you say Muffler i assume you mean exhaust, i would not worry about that as quite a few GP's, mine included have needed new exhausts, due to hangers breaking. The scorched JCW badge is also quite common again mine is scorched and illegible now after 27,000 miles. The tyre though is the one i would have a go at them for. Either it was low when you bought it a bit naughty or it has a tracking/suspension problem. Either way i would want a replacement ideally a pair as compensation. The scorched badge you might ask about but if its gone now it will do it again i should think!

How technical am i !!

Sorry you mentioned window, that is a bad one too. I would complain about that, nothing more annoying than a slow, squeeky window

Oh something that has also come to mind - the Badge at the rear of the car - John Cooper Works (The one on top of the GP sign)

Missing since i got it - wasnt to bothered bout this until i saw how much it cost

Im not bothered bout the muffler, just dissappointed it went 2 weeks after i got the car...

Scorched badge has been left scorched! - I understand the engine gets very hot...

Surely if you bought the car from a mini dealer they must have offered you some sort of warranty?

My GP has much lower mileage and the badge under the bonnet appeared scorched too. But today whilst giving it a good going over, I wiped the scorch marks off with some Meguires paint cleaner. Good as new, could be worth a try? Or try a t-cut.

Hi glancy sorry to see you having problems
Tyre probably low pressure
Badge under bonnet car polish works on mine
Exhaust common on GPs
Window go back get them to sort it

Now for a serious question
Are you busy on the 11 May? Would you like to meet nearly 40 other GP owners??
If so get your name down for the Group GP Display at Himley Hall

Hey Mick, sorry i cant make it - That is the day i return back from my early summer holiday in spain :P - However, can i ask you - How is your petrol consumption in your mini - ive never really gone a fair distance in it - but im currently getting from roughly a £50 tank - 200 miles (If i drive in the red) I do put my foot down every so often but if i drive conservatively i get 218- I need to sort it all out

Comp shows 28.5 average consumption
The price of petrol does seem to make it dear to run

You dont drive a car like the GP and worry about mpg

Its smiles per mile you get with a GP

Bad to get all those issues, but i doubt whether many BM stealers ever really do all the multi point checks they claim.

I bought an X5 in January for a considerable amount of cash - the list of problems is looooooong. Nothing major but deffo things a qualified mechanic/tech should pick up, including a flat tyre warning within 5 miles of the dealer & part bald tyre, like you, plus broken trim.

They will usually fix the problems, but it shouldnt really have to take a complaint. Presume it costs them less to claim under used car warranty, than to pay out of their profit on the 2nd hand sale.

Sorry... the main point of this post - the scorch marks on the intercooler JCW badge - mine is exactly the same and had it after 3,000 miles. I believe it is where the inner rubber surround from the air scoop rubs, rather than heat.

The Himley show will be good opportunity the swap problems and fixes.

Cheers

Having just spoken to the Mini Dealer Manager at knights in stafordshire -

they are: Sending me - JCW Badge, and a little plastic button for the inside of my car.. (the reading light switch)

they advised me to go there or to my local dealer to get paint crackling fixed for a full respray...
and they also told me that there minimum tread for letting used cars go is 3mm, both the front tyres were at 3mm when the car came in, but they only replaced one of them for a new tyre due to wearing of the side of that tyre, the result of that has left me with a bare tyre... 2 months down the line which at the moment, they are not sorting out.....

Is this fair 3mm, for an as new used car????

3mm is the BMW min tread, so yep this is correct, I spotted 4mm on a GP I was going to buy form a dealer in Sussex early this year. they would'nt replace the tyre as it was 4mm so I ended up not buying car. Apparently I had pushed the price down far enough to make it the cheapest dealership GP in the UK , so they had no leeeway to repalce tyre.
As I wasn't prepared to shell out 200quid in the next few months to replace fronts I walked away from sale - mind you they would have replaced if i had taken one of BMW finance options.
Anyway I digress - below 3mm is the BMW replacement criteria.

had my GP for 2 and half weeks now and my windows rub against the rubber. I live in Manchester and hopefully I don't have any problems with it because there is no way I will be taking it to Williams Manchester have a look at the dealers forum
