Exclamation MCS Supercharger vs Works Supercharger

Are they the same size?

All the literature I've read on the works kit says that it has a larger supercharger.

Does MSC = MCS?

They are not the same surely. When I spoke to the techs at JCW they said they binned the stock item and replaced it with "the next generation" item. Don't think they would get away with simply binning the stock item because they didn't want to pull off the pulley. If it were the same SC, but just teflon coated, then that would surely be supplied as standard to the factory cars now.

@ Tony

This whole JCW supercharger thing is doing my head in. Why can't someone from JC just admit that its £3.5k for a pulley, ECU & exhaust - the head & charger are just window dressing...

OR... give up more info on what makes the 'new' charger & head worth the extra cash?

Got some thirdhand info on the difference between a stock vs. a works supercharger-The impellers seemed to be "coated" with a graphite colored film.We both surmised that the coating was either a friction reducing or frictionless coating of some sort.I know that many Formula teams use coatings or metal transforming treatments for this same purpose. The technician could not tell if any more mods had been done on the item. Will let know the outcome of the install from the mechanics standpoint-

From Liam "S"' thread a little further down...

We'll I've just watched the online chat with Mike Cooper on Mini.co.uk.

He mentioned nothing about the Supercharger being bigger, all he said was that the blades have an abrasive coating meaning that there's a better seal->more power and a smaller pulley->more power. Looks like it's a myth that the supercharger is larger.

He also said about the cylinder head, that the inlet ports/exhaust ports are CNC machined->7bhp increase.

What's CNC machined?

Maybe I should cancel my S order and go get that manic Impreza WRX I test drove yesterday. Costs £20k but at least I won't be kept awake at night worrying about tefal coated widgets & voided warranties

Hehehe i'm waiting Max

The other point about the head, it's contracted out to a company in Swindon isn't it? Bet that could be done to the same spec at a cheaper cost too.

I think the coating is to help with heat dispersion too?
