Works S - Problems

Hi all,

my 3k miles Works S has just been diagnosed as needing a new gearbox following the arrival of a rattle. It also has a problem where it tries to stall when you touch the gas at idle.

Has anyone else had these problems - are they Works related ?

Should I just lay down and expect a 3k mile car to have such a major component problem or should I be screaming like hell.

Thanks.

R.

The problems are not related to Works.
Read here (or search a number of similar threads) about the yo-yo:

Works related or not I would still be screaming; this is a great opportunity for lots of nice MINI freebies from your friendly dealer!!

Exclamation

I had a MCS/JCW with the conversion fitted from new by BMW. It had problems from day one. Rattles, noises, creaks, bangs, stutter troubles, 1st/reverse gears stiff and clunky, knocking through steering wheels, funny brakes in cold/wet, centre console items failing to come to life. I heard all the excuses, like the characteristic argument, they even claimed I was expecting too much from my £25k brand new car. It had various parts replaced including, superchargers, belts, chains, shafts, couplings, tyres, steering racks etc, etc, etc. This was all UNDER 4ooo miles. I screamed the dealership down when they had my Mini from early Dec until early Jan, I picked it up to discover the rattles from under the Bonnet were infact louder and worse than ever, the technician said something dumb like, have you checked the oil, I pointed out it had infact been in his/BMW care for the last four weeks so how was I supposed to check the oil? I got my money back a couple of days later and bought a Focus RS with 2500 miles on the clock with which I have had not one single problem in over 2000 miles which is helluva lot longer than my MCS lasted and the Ford guys at my dealership are just like old pals, unlike the beings at my BMW dealership who always made me feel bad for wanting my new car to be perfect or at least work properly. If I were you Id drop the Mini ASAP and get something a little more tried and tested and a dealership that actually cares about its customers rather than wether youre in a suit or not.

I had lots of problems with my MCS/JCW and no amount of dropping hints, screaming, shouting, smiling or giving them one more chance ever prompted them to offer me any goodies, freebies, goodwill or smiles. I dropped the MCS and dealership and got a full refund, but no apology for my troubles.
