Offline | Winterfest is put on by local chapters of the Porsche and BMw clubs. It is open to all vehicles as long as they meet the minimum saftey requirements. There are several Mini owners (including myself) who will be both instructing and driving for this event and I was hoping to pick up many new Mini drivers as students since this is a yearly event. | MINI2 Regular | I saw Mark running around the track looking really well. I never got a chance to talk to him as every time I passed by his car in the pits he wasn't around. Alot of people were complaining about not getting any traction early on due to the cold weather (30's Saturday morning). I counted 3 DS MCS. 2 silver MCS Mark and the Grassroots car. 1 Red MCS, 1 Red MC. and my lonely Black MCS begging to be driven on the track! I was able to talk to the Grassroots guy who is mainly running BMP stuff. He is still on stock Brake Calipers, and stock Rear Pads and Rotors. The Brakes on Marks car looked killer. Doesn't have the LSD, has the $uper$print exhaust. He is running teh RDR Rear Sway Bar and was saying that he is planning on going even bigger. The Roll Cage on the Grassroots car looked really nice..I didn't get a chance to inspect Marks. Overall I'd say that Marks car looked cooler, the stripes are BAD@SS. I don't know how fast Mark was running but I know that this guy was running in the 2minute 40something seconds. Maybe Mark can enlighten us. I have some pictures that I took of the two cars that I'll try to upload at some point today. Hey Mark are you planning on running that race down in Homestead in April I think it is? |

Offline | Armando - Not sure on the Homestead run or not. Last I heard was it may not go off because of the the Fran-Am kids and their antics. Club no longer wants to work with them after the stunts they pulled this weekend. My first schedualled race will be May 31st June 1st in Sebring again. I want some time to put everything together for my car. Still need to get a seperate set of track wheels and tires so I'll have the traction to compete with Grassroots. The Limited Slip Differential did help alot, but I was still spinning tires once the SO3's heated up. Not sure what my times were since I was not running a timer in the car. (Not legal for Driving School anyway) I did provide quite a few rides for students and other Mini owners. Everyone was amazed at the handling. Especially how deep I was able to dive into corners when braking. (Sent a couple of cars off into the dirt that tried to follow me through corners!) They were instructors as well and should have known better. Ended up installing a new suspension the day before the event. Now running the Spax adjustable. Very nice and easy to tune for street or track. I know Grassroots was dying to get their hands on my brakes so I imagine I'll hear about them going to them or doing a brake comparison later on. Passed my check off ride for my Racing License this trip so I'm legal for turning the Minibeast into a moving chicane! I took a ribbing all weekend from our Porsche drivers about the little Mini, but those that took a ride were very impressed with it. Now if I can get them to quit asking what I feed my hamsters! Anyway, had a ball and worked my backside off! Mark -'04 Cooper S MC40 |
